The Amazon appstore doesn't list other reading apps. You can get the app on to the Fire by other means, but it's less convenient than using a generic Android tablet.

I like Moon Reader Pro, too.

How well does Moon Reader Pro respect CSS? Can you do overrides while respecting the CSS?

I read with Moon+ on Android and it's excellent. I tried a few of them before I picked Moon+ and there were several good ones although I don't recall which is which now.

Thanks for all the info everyone. I already have an iPad, so I don’t think the kindle fire is going to do anything for me. Plus I like the screen and battery life of the E ink readers.

I am leaning toward the Kobo Aura H2O 2nd edition or the Kindle Voyage. The Voyage seems a little pricey and there seems to be some screen issues? I’m not sure how common those are, people are quick to complain about stuff so sometimes it seems things are more common than they really are. But that Kobo, looks really nice, I just wish I could get one in my hands to check it out before I buy. Thanks again everyone, I’ll let you know what I decide on. There is so much to read here, glad I found these forums.

Thanks again for all the help, especially about Calibre. I just ordered a Kobo Aura H2O 2nd edition. I’ll be downloading Calibre shortly and then I’ll have the dreaded wait.

I know you'll enjoy your new H2O2. If you have not yet ordered a case, now is the time to do so.

I have a version of one of their cases for my H2O.

I did a quick search before I ordered the Kobo, most of the cases I saw didn’t distinguish if it was for the 2nd edition or not. I ended up just ordering the case from Kobo when I ordered the H2O2. I wish I saw that before, $40 for the Kobo case was a little pricey but I figured better than not having one.

You can also use the Nook app for Android installed on a Kindle Fire to download your B&N eBooks. The Fire's OS hides the downloaded files using it's mtp:// protocol - the Nook app can open and display them, but you can't see the files when looking at the filesystem outside of the app. The trick is to download them to the Fire's SD card, then pull the card out and insert it into your desktop computer. Once the SD card is mounted in a standard fashion (i.e. - NOT inside the Fire tablet and subject to mtp:// protocol), then you can see and copy the files.

Need help for a new e-Reader

I am looking for a larger screen and the new Oasis seems very expensive. I also want to get used to the ePub format, as I download (to my iPad) pubs. They dropped the mobi format, which makes me think that might be the wave of the future.

Can I read mobi from a Kobo?

Yes. The specs say that even the default app should open them, but it will definitely work when you install some other reading app, like Coolreader or Koreader.
