Ok, slowly getting there (thanks....or not ) to vrf paper dummy idea, the new oasis fits (but tightly) in my handbag.

Aiming at 32 GB, 80% sideloaded books, not using the kindle collection for the time being.

Could I use the calibre metadata plugboard to incorporate my shelve names in the title of the books in order to find them quicker?

As in a real Library, each one of my books is filed in Calibre under one and only one shelf.

PS: Shelf? Shelve? Shelves? Oh dear.....

PS2: I know this would be better placed in the Calibre sub-forum, but I don't want to double post. Mods, feel free to move this post there if needed.

Power for many laptops now is USB compatible connectors at both ends particularly for 2-in-1s. The limit you are talking about is for computers supplying power, not for wall chargers.

There are plenty of cables with USB-C on one end and USB A on the other. Depending on what advantage you are looking for. To use a brick charger this will work fine. To take advantage of speed you will need a USB 3 port at least and perhaps a USB-C 3.1 port.

This is (pretty much) the Kindle I've been waiting for. Finally! Waterproofing- finally! Larger screen - finally! I was waiting so long that I bought a Kobo Aura One, which is very nice indeed. I will miss the comfort light for night time reading, but I think the white on black may be a good substitute for that. So, I ordered the top specced one and it's going to be my Christmas present.
I will miss my haptic feedback buttons though,

You can have rapid charge without a computer. My Chromebook has USB-C, of course, so I could use that to update my Kindle. But, just think, in the near future, you will have to have USB micro cables around just for your Kindle. Right now, nothing else I have uses USB micro.

I have numerous devices that use both mini- and micro-USB. I have nothing that uses a USB-C connector.

Well, in fairness, I do have two other types of cable . USB 3 cables, which most of my more modern external drives use, and Apple "Lightning" cables which my iPhone and iPad use.

Just curious, are you planning to use both the KA1 and the new Kindle? Or switching to the Kindle exclusively?

I'm planning to switch to the oasis exclusively. I have had many kindles over the years (kindle 2, kk, kindle (before it was rebranded 'basic' - the one with the lighted cover), Paperwhite, DXG and Voyage. It was with reluctance that I left the kindle brand after the original Oasis failed to deliver what I was after. If it had offered either a larger screen or waterproofing, I would have bought that.
The KA1 is really nice, and I love the way the text looks on the screen - just like a real book, because (I believe) of the kerning, which the kindle still lacks.
I just like the quality of kindles, and this one looks like a return to the quality of previous versions, with its aluminum back. I am also curious to try this side-weighted form factor of the Oasis.
Overdrive integration was another thing that attracted me to the KA1, but now that I can borrow books for my kindle too (although not direct from the device, but that's a small quibble for me), there's nothing to stop me going back to the Amazon fold.

I made a little folded-paper mockup from the listed dimensions. Not too big at all for me. The additional display room will be very nice for a slightly larger font.

The size of the Oasis was a bit of a concern for me, so I compared it with my Paperwhite. The Oasis is 0.4 inches shorter, 1 inch wider, and 0.4 ounces lighter. In return for the greater width, I get page-turn buttons, which I've missed ever since replacing my Kindle Keyboard.
