Lost in translation story win.

Last night someone told me a hilarious story about a poor foreign visitor to Germany. The chap went to a restaurant bathroom and stayed there so long that his host began to worry. When he finally came out he explained that he had mistakenly picked the ladies' room instead of the gents' and then didn't dare leave his stall because there were always new ladies coming in. Funny enough. But what's really hilarious is his strategy of finding the right (wrong) toilet: using English to make sense of German. The doors said "Damen" (Ladies) and "Herren" (Gents), but the unfortunate chap reasoned that "Damen", well, that's for "da men" obviously, especially since "Herren" must be "her" with some weird German ending. Moral: Never overestimate your linguistic ingenuity!
