I upgraded from my old Sony to a paperwhite 3 last year. It does everything I need it to do. The only thing I would want is a flush screen and maybe a slightly larger screen. But the Oasis 2 still has the square shape of the first one. It's just not a good ergonomic shape to me especially for a 7 inch reader. If it was a standard shape e-reader I may have considered it. The other stuff like waterproofing doesn't interest me in the least. Plus the price is way to high for this. I would rather get a Aura One.
So my paperwhite will be fine for now.... |

I think the K2 is the most solidly built and premium feeling kindle we've had. It's the "they don't make em like they used to" kindle, for better or worse.

Except the keyboard looks so archaic now. Most people I think prefer touchscreen on devices now, even those that resisted at first. The keyboard just makes the device too big. But yeah it probably is a more stout device.

It has a larger screen and a faster graphics processor. Both of those should confer improvement, even if they did nothing specifically to improve PDF support. Whether these are sufficient is going to depend on what your expectations and requirements are.

It's a shame the brand new Oasis 7" has a ten-year old USB micro port. Everything else I own uses USB c with rapid charging and faster data transfer but I have to keep USB micro cables for my car, my power bank, my office, and my bedroom just because Kindle is behind the times.

And I have never even seen this Usb C, don't know what it looks like. All my devices have the same plugs. And they aren't 10 years old. I guess at one point I won't have a choice, if this is a new format they are going too. But I really am not looking forward to buying a bunch of new cables just for that. Are there adapters for that stuff?

My son got a cell phone that uses USB C, and it's a major pain. He travels for a living, and if he accidentally leaves his cable in a hotel room or on the jobsite, he can't just go into a convenience store and buy a new cable. He has dozens of micro USB cables, but the only place he can find USB C is either Amazon or Best Buy. Shari |

Well Usb 2.0 has been around for awhile and many new devices still use it. But the move is towards usb c. My smartphone has it. Charging is super fast and the best thing for me anyways....is the connector is niw symmetrical(as are the ports on new devices)..so no more worrying about the orientation of the connector before plugging in. You can do it In the dark without worrying about plugging it in upside down and ruining the port. You won't have to buy new cables for old devices. Because eventually all new devices will have c and i doubt you will continue to use the same ereader or cell phone 5 years from now... Last edited by Tony1988; 10-16-2017 at 04:12 PM. |

You won't find a Kindle charges faster with USB-C. Given the specs of the current Kindle charger, the Kindle charges with 1.8a. What is it about USB-C that would let a device charge faster? Also, you would not notice the difference between the microUSB port and a USB-C port on a Kindle for transferring content.

I suppose as long as the other end stays the same so I can still in the future use my multi charge usb thingies. Or get adapters for all the cables I bought to go into those multi dockets. I guess I'll find out when I buy the next phone, which will be a while as mine is fine. Its not quite 2 years old. And has a replaceable battery, so unless it dies on me, I see no point. Stuff in the same price range ($200 and below) has still about the same features with maybe thumb print stuff added I don't really need. My Fire8, which I bought not too long ago still has the same usb. I guess not having to look at the plug as it goes into the device would be nice. I am really looking forward to a future of no cables on anything though. Including the mess that is behind our TV. ![]() |

I don't have anything with usb-c either and none of it is 10 years old.
Wait: even 6 years ago, micro was just coming in to being popular, before that it was mini usb. As I understand it, most usb-c is on Apples not Android. I like Atunah's fantasy. |

I'm kind of with you on that. But then I don't mind being on the "trailing edge" of technology. By the time I get something with USB C ports, USB D ports will probably be the new rage. As far as I can tell, USB micro ports are tried and tested, and they seem to work fine.
