I don't think anything larger than 6" would work for me. If I'm out and about, it goes in my pocket and in the summer it wouldn't fit.

Not fitting in a pocket is a fantastic feature.

I take my Kobo Aura One everywhere -- fits in my purse just fine. I'll do the same with this once I get a sleeve.

circle emphasis mine, photo otherwise untouched

But on the actual details page, it's clearly a micro-USB connection (asymmetrical, angled port):

Of course it looks like it's actually going to actually be a micro port, but interesting that Amazon is featuring a USB-C render in a prominent promo image - might suggest that they know USB-C looks better or that they considered a USB-C port at some point in the design? Or maybe some other fun conspiracy theory? Anyways, just an interesting point

I bought a Kindle Oasis earlier this year (first version) and there were a few things about it that I did not like. The size just seemed wrong for some reason, fit awkwardly because of its square shape. And the battery in the case did not work for me. I think I am going to be getting a newer one simply because of those issues. I read a LOT on my kindle and these issues are important to me.

Or am I crazy?

Yes and no. Crazy for getting the original Oasis. Not crazy for trying the new Oasis.

The first picture could well be the top of the rubber plug rather than an uncovered connector.

What you didn't mention, was the two images are of different edges of the Kindle.
I.E: If you call one an image of the top edge, the other one is an image of the bottom edge.

P.S: You do know that applications such as Gimp and Photoshop exist, right?

That top picture looks like the power button. On my current Oasis it has the same shape.

Ah, good catch! That's far less exciting but probably it - from what I can tell the top edge has an extruded power button, the same colour as the aluminum casing but would fit that rounded shape.

In the splash image it does look black and recessed, but could very well be a black rubberized power button instead of a port.

Edit: Re. photoshop/gimp - haha yes, what I was getting at in my post was that it looked at a glance like Amazon photoshop'd a different port onto the Oasis 2 - I thought it might be fun to speculate why they might post that (either as a mistake, a deliberate thing, or something else), but it turns out it's probably just the power button. Excitement over

I agree. That's the power button, not the USB connector.

That does make a lot of sense.

Isn't this all a bit retro in the design department?
The K2 (I include the DX/G) devices had the power button and the connector on opposite edges.
They also had a metal back.

Yes, my Aura ONE also goes with me everywhere. No trouble at all, it's slim and light!

People used to carry those clunky Kindle Keyboards about, after all! I carried a clunky Nook WiFi back in the day....

Most of the time, I find collections plus the excellent and very fast search facility enable me to find anything quickly. I know that the collections are in essence tags not folders, so collections within collections will not happen though this would be useful to me. As the son of two librarians, I've always been a great cataloguer of books!

New one is exactly of the same square shape, just bigger and heavier. But I understand you, new Oasis is very tempting, just the price out of mind especially here in Canada
