I haven't yet used the new firmware myself, but I would imagine so. Perhaps someone else can confirm that?

I didn't knew this kind of hack existed, I thought I'd have to jailbreak my PW! I've seen that people use it mostly to make the bigger font sizes 'smaller', is it possible to change all of the sizes then, even the smallest one?

It used to be in prior versions.

Note that since 5.8.11 evidently has more menu choices, the file will probably have more entries.
The ones in the current example had an entry for each menu choice.

You do not need to have the Kindle jail broken to use a FONT_RAMP file.
The person(s) that provide examples do have to have a jb Kindle to determine the file format a firmware version expects.
(Well, not exactly, it could be done by opening the Amazon 5.8.11 update package with KindleTool and examining the code.)

Since 5.8.11 is available for all six (soon seven) i.MX6 based Kindles, it should not be long before someone posts matching examples.
Just stay tuned to a Kindle developer's sub-forum nearby.

JB is not required for this hack to work.
The only difference since 5.8.11 FW is that now you have 14 sizes in font menu, so you have to provide FONT_RAMP file with 14 numbers. Each number represent one size.
To explain meaning of those numbers, I wrote a post few years ago:

Those numbers are font sizes in 1/100th of an inch. So if you want to transfer them to pixels or another way arround you must know DPI (300 for KV and 216 for PW2).
Pixel height for KV is 1/300" = 0.00333" or 0.08467mm
For example:
if you want fonts with those sizes (in pixel):
22px, 24px, 26px, 28px, 30px, 32px, 34px, 36px
you have to use file with those numbers (in 1/100"):
7.33 8.00 8.67 9.33 10.00 10.67 11.33 12.00

(22px*0.00333"=0.07326 or round up to 7.33 in 1/100"
24px*0.00333"=0.07992 or round up to 8.00 in X/100" and so on...)

Yeah I don't have thousands of books on my Kindle at any one time so I was able to restore and copy my books back without much fuss. Hadn't ever done a restore since I bought the Kindle so it's probably a good thing. I'm all back to normal now.

Well, I figured how to get the bold to work on my sideloaded stuff, which is a miracle in itself as I am pretty clueless about it all. Only thing is, its back to not having a cover show when I do it.
I use calibre only in the bare bones, I have no idea about any of the geeky stuff. Here someone said to first resize the cover, then convert to mobi "old" and use Pdoc in the field. That finally gave me the covers on my kindle on sideloaded.
I only sideload with the send to kindle thingie that I can right click on the file. Its the easiest for me and I can get my stuff in the cloud that way. I don't have a lot of sideloaded stuff really.

But it didn't have the bold font. So what I did was I converted to "both" mobi, whatever that means, I tried the azw, but I can't right click that for send to kindle. So now its sends it with bold enabled, but no cover. I'd rather have the bold I guess if I have to pick.

Just to throw in my two cents - just updated my Oasis. Switched from font size 3 to size 2 with boldness 1 and it looks comfortable. New font options work with both AZW3 and KFX formats. Of course, I have to see how it will feel after several hours of reading. Sideloaded with calibre several books (to /documents folder, not subfolders), no problems, Oasis recognised them immediately after ejecting it.

Neither has given me the message. So I wonder if its not the covers, but the connectors on the actual device that cause that issue.

Re the cover connection: I had problems when I applied a skin to my Oasis. It was just thick enough to make the connections go flakey and not always connect. Or even, not connect much of the time. (I wanted a skin to make it less slippery.)
