I'm heavily invested in Kobo, and I love my H2O. This appears to be a very nice reader. Still, the price tag is prohibitive. The 8Gb model is $140CDN more expensive then a top of the line Kobo Aura One, $190CDN more expensive then the Aura H2O2. Amazon is asking for $489.99CDN for the top of the line 32GB model, which also has Cellular connectivity.

I wonder how much of an impact Bluetooth use will have on the Oasis' battery life?

I ordered the Amazon leather cover but share your concern with the uncovered area on the back of the Oasis. For now, I'll find some way to protect that area (perhaps an old screen protector) and will keep my eye open for an aftermarket case.

All of the newer Kindles (Paperwhite 3 and later) have 512MB. It was required for VoiceView (keeps voice data in RAM).

But Oasis 2 has a newer graphics chip so it will indeed perform better.

I’m not interested in using it with cover on - thinking I’d like a rigid sleeve of some sort, ideally with a magnet in there so it sleeps when you slide it in and wakes when you slide it out. But someone has to make such a thing.

FYI -- for folks who would like to order and still get it on release day, or for folks who live in Amazon delivery areas serviced by the circus sideshow known as Amazon Logistics, it seems that the new Oasis models are up at Best Buy in USA with release date delivery... the 8gb special offer wifi version is the only one with in-store release date pickup listed. I'm contemplating canceling my Amazon order so I can get a reliable delivery service... but can't decide between the 8 and 32gb.

Not seeing any cases up at Best Buy.

If so, does anyone have any links I could look at, to try to guess if those will be avaialble for oasis2?

Hrmmmmmm

This device looks sorely tempting, Amazon devices always have this premium quality finish that Kobo's never have. But I have the Aura One and its surviving very well and mine has perfect, beautiful lighting. If I start to hear even whispers of lighting cones or shadows or the like, im staying far far away. Looking forward to the reviews!

There weren't many aftermarket cases for the first oasis since it came with a case and it was needed for the battery.

Neither is the case this time. There should be some options shortly I'd guess

Why would it get trashed? I have an iPad, which also has an aluminium back, and use a cover which protects only the screen, and leaves the back exposed. It goes in and out of my bag every day, gets put down on tables and numerous other surfaces, and there's not a mark on it.

What on Earth do you keep in your bag that would destroy aluminium?

That exactly! And if you put it in a bag with lots of sharp objects, just slide the whole setup in an additional sleeve. Should only be days until the first ones show up that hold Oasis plus case
