{. . . }

It's a bit confusing to try to get links, because there are multiple authors named Mary Stewart, and getting rid of strays is not easy. I've chosen to leave in the strays to get all of these titles.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/gp/search/?se...price-asc-rank
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/search?Qu...b-ecd39613adfe
I would suggest using both the author and the publisher, then price order

I tried that, but then it didn't pick up all of them at Amazon, only 10 of the 14, also tried using the nodes for general fiction and mystery, and again, didn't give clean results, so I went with the strays, rather than missing out on a few...

The Color of Fear is the most recent (2017, I'm not counting them all to figure out what number in the series it is ) in the Sharon McCone series by Marcia Muller. It has dropped to $2.99 as part of the US Kindle daily deal, and is also $2.99 at Kobo US. It's nice to see a price drop on a most-recent-in-series title!

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Color-Fear-Sh...dp/B01NCHK5QO/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the-color-of-fear

Spoiler:
Quote:
In New York Times bestselling author Marcia Muller's captivating new mystery, private detective Sharon McCone's investigation hits closer to home than ever before...

THE COLOR OF FEAR

When a knock on the door in the middle of the night wakes Sharon, she's wholly unprepared for the horrifying news: her father has been the victim of a vicious, racially-motivated attack.

A nationally recognized Shoshone artist, Elwood had been visiting Sharon for the holidays, browsing for gifts in San Francisco's exclusive Marina district when he was set upon by a mob of angry young men. Now he lies in a coma, hovering between life and death.

With little progress on the investigation from the overworked, short-handed police, Sharon resolves to track down Elwood's attackers herself. But when Sharon begins receiving hate-filled, racist threats from a shadowy group, it becomes clear that her pursuit of justice may be putting her own life in jeopardy...

Three series of mystery cozies by Chloe Kendrick have been made into omnibus' and are currently offered at Amazon for .99 each.

Animal Instincts (1-6)

Food Truck Mysteries (1-14)

The first 3 books of Animal Instincts series are free at Kobo and Barnes & Noble. They are listed individually. I don't see the omnibus version available at these two places.

Airport, by Arthur Hailey, has dropped to $0.63 at Kindle US. Not on sale (as of now) at Kobo US.

link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JVCHC36/

Spoiler:
Quote:
Arthur Hailey’s blockbuster #1 New York Times bestseller, which was made into a hit film, takes readers behind the scenes of an airport and into the cockpit of a passenger jet during a time of crisis

As a raging blizzard wreaks havoc at Lincoln International Airport outside Chicago, airport and airline personnel try to cope with this unstoppable force of nature that is endangering thousands of lives. And in the air, a lone plane struggles to reach its destination. Over the course of seven pulse-pounding hours, a tense human drama plays out as a brilliant airport manager, an arrogant pilot, a tough maintenance man, and a beautiful stewardess strive to avert disaster.

Featuring a diverse cast of vibrant characters, Airport is both a realistic depiction of the airline industry and a novel of nail-biting suspense.

This ebook includes a foreword by the author.

The Shape Shifter is the 18th and last title in the Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee series written by Tony Hillerman, although the series has been continued by his daughter, Anne. It has dropped to $0.99 at Nook US as their daily deal. As of now, it has not dropped at either Kindle or Kobo US. If you, like me, don't like the hassle of dealing with non-officially-downloadable Nook books, you can price-match to Kobo.

(Although I'm amazed to find myself writing something nice about Kobo, I price-matched another title at Kobo a week or two ago, and it is still going smoothly for me - I price-match a couple of times a month, and have only had trouble once, and that was quickly resolved with a screenshot of the sale price at the other seller.)

I have a sneaking fondness for this title since it is the first ebook I ever read, in MS .lit format, on my PDA, on a long late-night Newark-LA flight, coming home from a long miserable business trip, and I remember thinking ebooks were going to be a cool thing!

Spoiler:
Quote:
Retirement has never sat well with former Navajo Tribal Police Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn. Now the ghosts of a still-unsolved case are returning to haunt him, reawakened by a photograph in a magazine spread of a one-of-a-kind Navajo rug, a priceless work of woven art that was supposedly destroyed in a suspicious fire many years earlier. The rug, commemorating one of the darkest and most terrible chapters in American history, was always said to be cursed, and now the friend who brought it to Leaphorn's attention has mysteriously gone missing.

With newly wedded officers Jim Chee and Bernie Manuelito just back from their honeymoon, the legendary ex-lawman is on his own to pick up the threads of a crime he'd once thought impossible to untangle. And they're leading him back into a world of lethal greed, shifting truths, and changing faces, where a cold-blooded killer still resides.

Three 2017/most-recent-in-series titles are on sale today as part of the US Kindle daily deal. Only one is on sale right now at Kobo US, but I'm including Kobo links for price check convenience.

Painted Queen is the last (??? don't know if Hess will do more ???) in the Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters, finished by Joan Hess. I am happy to see this one on sale. I like Joan Hess' two main series (Arly Hanks/Maggody and Clare Malloy) and so hopefully will like this title too. Queen has dropped to $2.99 at Kindle US.

Kobo US (for price check): https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the-painted-queen
Spoiler:
Quote:
Egypt, 1912—Amelia Peabody and her dashing archeologist husband, Radcliffe Emerson, are once again in danger as they search for a priceless, stolen bust of legendary Queen Nefertiti and Amelia finds herself the target of assassins in this long-awaited, eagerly anticipated final installment of Elizabeth Peters’ bestselling, beloved mystery series.

Arriving in Cairo for another thrilling excavation season, Amelia is relaxing in a well-earned bubble bath in her elegant hotel suite in Cairo, when a man with knife protruding from his back staggers into the bath chamber and utters a single word—"Murder"—before collapsing on the tiled floor, dead. Among the few possessions he carried was a sheet of paper with Amelia’s name and room number, and a curious piece of pasteboard the size of a calling card bearing one word: "Judas." Most peculiarly, the stranger was wearing a gold-rimmed monocle in his left eye.

It quickly becomes apparent that someone saved Amelia from a would-be assassin—someone who is keeping a careful eye on the intrepid Englishwoman. Discovering a terse note clearly meant for Emerson—Where were you?"—pushed under their door, there can be only one answer: the brilliant master of disguise, Sethos.

But neither assassins nor the Genius of Crime will deter Amelia as she and Emerson head to the excavation site at Amarna, where they will witness the discovery of one of the most precious Egyptian artifacts: the iconic Nefertiti bust. In 1345 B.C. the sculptor Thutmose crafted the piece in tribute to the great beauty of this queen who was also the chief consort of Pharaoh Akhenaten and stepmother to King Tutankhamun.

For Amelia, this excavation season will prove to be unforgettable. Throughout her journey, a parade of men in monocles will die under suspicious circumstances, fascinating new relics will be unearthed, a diabolical mystery will be solved, and a brilliant criminal will offer his final challenge . . . and perhaps be unmasked at last.

Fallout is the latest in the V.I. Warshawski series by Sara Paretsky. It is $2.99 at Kindle US. Info and links in this previous post: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh....php?p=3543324

Death of a Ghost is the most recent in the Hamish Macbeth series by MC Beaton. (Also a title in Margery Allingham's Campion series, not on sale now...) It is $3.99 at both Kindle and Kobo US.
Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Death-Ghost-H...dp/B01GZY2854/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/death-of-a-ghost-4
Spoiler:
Quote:
Sergeant Hamish Macbeth--Scotland's most quick-witted but unambitious policeman--returns in M.C. Beaton's new mystery in her New York Times bestselling series

When Police Sergeant Hamish Macbeth hears reports of a haunted castle near Drim, he assumes the eerie noises and lights reported by the villagers are just local teenagers going there to smoke pot or, worse, inject themselves with drugs. Still, Hamish decides that he and his policeman, Charlie "Clumsy" Carson, will spend the night at the ruined castle to get to the bottom of the rumors once and for all.

There's no sign of any ghost...but then Charlie disappears through the floor. It turns out he's fallen into the cellar. And what Hamish and Charlie find there is worse than a ghost: a dead body propped against the wall. Waiting for help to arrive, Hamish and Charlie leave the castle just for a moment--to eat bacon baps--but when they return, the body is nowhere to be seen.

It's clear something strange--and deadly--is going on at the castle, and Hamish must get to the bottom of it before the "ghost" can strike again...

I read it soon after it came out, and was a little disappointed. It didn't have the "authentic Peabody flavour" to me (which is, I suppose, not too surprising). I think it's worth reading, but not one of the best by a long shot.

Well, at $14.99 or whatever it started at, I wasn't going to try it, but at $2.99, I'll give it a try. I do have the advantage of liking both authors to start with, but it can be tricky to adopt someone else's voice. Glad you think it's still worth reading, even if not one of the best, since I already bought it .

Red Chameleon is the 3rd in the Inspector Rostnikov series by Stuart M. Kaminsky. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle US.

Quote:
To salvage his career, Rostnikov takes on a baffling bathroom murder.

After a lifetime in service to the Soviet Union, police inspector Porfiry Rostnikov may have found a way out. A high-profile homicide leads him to a cache of documents packed full of incriminating Kremlin gossip, which he uses as a bargaining chip to secure exit visas for himself and his wife. But just before the deal closes, Brezhnev’s death sends the nation into turmoil, and dooms Rostnikov’s escape. His career derailed, the veteran cop is reduced to investigating penny-ante murders—the latest of which may lead somewhere very big indeed.

An elderly Jewish man has been shot to death in his bathtub, an incomprehensible killing committed in sight of his two children. And as a brutal Moscow summer wears on, the police themselves become outright targets for car thieves and snipers. With the help of his two faithful lieutenants, Karpo and Tkach, the limping detective will need to find a way to solve these cases and salvage his good name—if it doesn’t cost him his life.

Yes, definitely! It may not be the best of the Peabody books, but it's still a Peabody book, and the ending was written by Elizabeth Peters.

Huh. I made the mistake of getting it full price and I regretted it. To me it read more like Joan Hess than Elizabeth Peters.

In this exciting mystery from New York Times bestselling author Susan Wittig Albert, China Bayles fears for her husband’s life as an escaped convict targets him...

Max Mantel, the killer McQuaid put away years ago, has busted out of the Huntsville prison and appears to be headed for Pecan Springs. McQuaid knows there’s only one way to stop the vengeful convict—set a trap with himself as bait.

China wants to stay by her husband’s side and keep him from harm. But McQuaid insists that she get out of town and go to the Last Chance Olive Ranch, where she’s agreed to teach a workshop on herbs.

When China and her best friend arrive at the ranch, she learns the owner, Maddie Haskell, has her own troubles. She inherited the ranch and olive oil business from the late matriarch, Eliza Butler, but Eliza’s nephew is contesting the will.

While China throws herself into helping Maddie, McQuaid’s plan backfires when Mantel executes a countermove he never saw coming. Now McQuaid’s life is not the only one at stake—and this time may really be his last chance...
