calibre has a new version where the changelog say "kobo driver support for new firmware"

maybe these performance issues might have been people uploading through calibre with old version calibre and new version kobo firmware.

No, it wasn't. If you read my post near the beginning of the of the thread detailing the changes in this firmware, there were no changes needed in the drivers except for version numbers. And if you read my post about why Kobo is not pushing this version out, you will see that Kobo accepts it is a problem in the firmware.

Re: pdf performance

While text based PDFs are more annoying than before, they are not unbearably slow.

However, I just loaded a pdf that is all high resolution images of pages. Before page turns were unbearably slow -- maybe 5 seconds before I got a clear image. Now I get an image in a second or so. Panning the zoomed page is still annoying, but only a little slower than it is for text pages now. This seems like a huge improvement, despite the extra screen blinks and panning issues.

I rolled back to 4.5.9587 a couple of days at this stage and have found no issue with any function, didn't even do a factory reset just reinstalled the older firmware
I've since synced with kobo library, made a couple of purchases and side loaded others from my own library again with no issues.

I have an Aura 2 and about 1400 books, and I too am getting excruciatingly slow response on the new buttons from within a book and also when pressing home.

Given how many books you have, I would not be bothered by that.

Given that it wasn't happening before and that the disk is only about 1/3 full (which to me suggests that things shouldn't slow down quite that much yet) it's a pain. Except for the infamous black screen update, though, I've had very few complaints or problems in the 5 years I've had Kobo.

Which version of the firmware doesn't have the bug whereby you can't download an epub file from the Kobo Touch v1 web browser (e.g. using cops)? One of the recent firmwares stopped that working.

Your 15 seconds is about what I was seeing with nearly 4000 books. I didn't really notice it, except when I did, and then it was really annoying For me the main issues were when I tapped something accidentally and had to wait 15 seconds before I could do what I really wanted. While I was just reading, which is most of the time, it wasn't an issue.

On my Aura ONE this firm is very very fast. This is fastest firm for me. My reader is very responsive and work very fine. Maybe your hardware is not enough faster...

Trust me, it isn't the hardware. There is a problem in the firmware that affects all the devices. Including my Aura ONE.

And if you look the hardware, there is very little difference between the basic specs of the last three or four device that Kobo have releases. The CPU and RAM is the same. The screen resolution is the big difference and that would mean the Aura ONE would be the slowest.

I can't download this update fast enough. God, that "re-importing kepubs sideloaded to a microSD card" glitch was annoying.
