X-link to the DRM-free thread for two new bundles:

Humble Book Bundle Adventures in Science Fiction presented by Open Road Media contains a nice selection of backlist titles from their well-known and award-winning authors, including Eleanor Arnason (I've been meaning to try more of her work after having being impressed by an Asimov's Reader Choice-winning novella that got reprinted in Lightspeed Magazine), Harlan Ellison (The City on the Edge of Forever original manuscript and memoir for Star Trek fans), Andre Norton, Alan Dean Foster (complete 3-novel Icerigger Trilogy), Poul Anderson, Joe Haldeman, Octavia E. Butler, Bruce Sterling (a Nebula-nominated novel), John Brunner, and many more. Some overlap with previous bundles offered ages ago, but overall a very nice selection across a broad range of subgenres.

StoryBundle is offering The Adventure Sci-Fi Bundle curated by Kevin J. Anderson, with mainly indie/newer titles, but also at least 4 backlist reprints from fellow MR member author Robert J. Sawyer, the late Robert Asprin, Jody Lynn Nye, and Brenda Cooper, from Ace and Tor books respectively (RJS' was from both, having been originally published by one, and then reprinted by the other).

If you downloaded any titles during the big Open Road giveaway last December double check for any titles you might already gave. Echoes of Earth is the only title I already have, but YMMV.

I have most of the Open Road Media SF bundle already, and since most of them go on sale for $1.99 occasionally, I'm passing too.

One problem I have with the Kevin J. Anderson Story Bundles is that sometimes he includes Sad/Rabid Puppies authors whose actions during the Hugo wars really stuck in my craw. A previous one had one by Jagi Lamplighter, wife of John C. Wright, the hoarder of Hugo nominations, and this one has one by "Crazy Uncle Lou" Antonelli, who called the Spokane Police Department a couple days before the World Science Fiction convention started, warning them that there was probably going to be serious violence by the SJWs at the Hugo Awards ceremony. Many of the authors are either not Puppies, or I don't recognize them, but I'm passing on them all the same.

Yup, I have the same reservation. I know he travels in some of the same circles as several Pups, so I can understand the networking, but that does not make me any more willing to contribute to the livelihood of the offending authors.

I would tend to agree with you in terms of the puppy authors, but living in the UK means I don't have access to the Open Road deals on Amazon.com. Therefore, to get the authors I actually want in the deal unfortunately also means getting authors I'm not interested in...

It would be perhaps more viable with these deals if the levels were based on the number of works you actually downloaded - there's been a lot of deals I've passed up because I was only interested in 1 or 2 works in the upper tiers (i.e. cheaper to buy from Amazon).

Yes, I got the deal at the top level - 24 works for less than £1 each, of which I or my partner were interested in 14 (and already had one). One of the 14 was actually 3 books - the Alan Dean Foster.

Considering the actions of some members of this forum as far as the Hugo goes they should first look in a mirror before tossing out that first stone. That is why you will not see me throwing any stones.

I have looked at both sides, decided to forgive and let bygones be gone.

I appreciate the links to the bundles, but I'm gonna pass on these too.

Just not interested in enough of the Story Bundle. Including the Lou Antonelli whose Hugo finalist stuff I read and didn't like, nevermind his other antics.

I already have a lot of the Humble Bundle. Plus my library gives me access to Hoopla Digital which has all of Open Road's titles. So if I don't have it, I could borrow it.

I was trying to sleep. To no avail. I heard a noise. A groaning. It was burrowing into my brain.

I followed the noise to Amazon.com where Mervyn Peake's Titus Groan (Gormenghast Book 1) was on sale for $1.99.

I hope buying the one shuts him up, because the rest in the series are $9 to $15.

Strange Practice by Vivian Shaw

Strange Practice by Vivian Shaw is currently £1.99 at Amazon UK. Plus the audiobook is £2.99. It’s been in my wish list for a while.

Meet Greta Helsing, doctor to the undead.

After inheriting a highly specialised, and highly peculiar, medical practice, Dr Helsing spends her days treating London's undead for a host of ills: vocal strain in banshees, arthritis in barrow-wights and entropy in mummies. Although barely making ends meet, this is just the quiet, supernatural-adjacent life Greta's dreamed of since childhood.

But when a sect of murderous monks emerges, killing human undead and alike, Greta must use all her unusual skills to keep her supernatural clients - and the rest of London - safe.

Those are brain maggots. They're quite harmless, actually.

---- The Gormenghast Trilogy is a work of art. It's my favorite fantasy trilogy.
