We had a clogged up gutter. After a night of rain it overflowed, straight into a disused chimney (it had been removed from the roof and in the store, but in between it's still there) and down into the store. On the way it picked up soot, so what came out of the hole in the ceiling was brown and sticky. Luckily it didn't smell and was easily washed off things, except where it soaked into paper or cardboard. And luckily no stock had to be thrown away.

We spend half the day cleaning. After lunch the worst handled and there wasn't enough space for us both the comfortable work in, so my father continued cleaning and I tackled the huge shipment (I almost managed to finish it).

Now the only thing left to deal is a chest of drawers, which we wanted to replace anyway and now have the motivation to do so. Unfortunately most drawers were always a bit open (it holds tools, tapes, papers, paper receipt rolls, pens, etc). Still, most should be salvageable, the water didn't run directly into it, but it did splatter into it. My father wants to get a new chest of drawers, a more practical one tomorrow evening, so we probably won't deal with it until those are put together.

I've promised that if necessary I'll work tomorrow all day, instead of just the morning. I'm now keeping my fingers crossed it won't be, so I have time to run my last errands and do my laundry for my vacation.

After this chaotic week I thoroughly deserve those couple of days off!

Did anybody unclog the gutter? And close up the disused chimney hole?

The gutter is cleaned, the hole isn't closed. Mainly because my father is the You-Never-Know-When-It-Comes-In-Handy type.

Well, the leak did ruin a big pile of You-Never-Know-When-It-Comes-In-Handy stuff. Including a mountain of power bricks/chargers my father had squirreled away of electronics we threw away or customers handed in for recycling. I now have space again behind "my" section of the counter to move around without having to step over, IHMO, trash.

Added bonus was that when he is in clean up mode he is more readily to agree with other changes. So I suggested to move some items to different places to make things work better and he agreed! Finally. I won't have time to implement them before I go away, but I will when I get back.

I'm a science fiction fan, and SF fandom has a tradition of hoax religions. One was invented by an old friend called The True Faith of the Sacred Cat.

The True Faith had two tenets:
1. The Lord Mota resides on Mars in the form of a sacred green cat.
2. If you believe that, you'll believe anything!

There was a liturgy, with beer and potato chips as the sacrament, and a church lowerarchy (I was a Discardinal and member of the Privy Council, which met in a Privy to advice the leader of the faith.)

True Faith heresy trials were a popular event at SF conventions. In one, a member of the faith was accused of heresy for not having attained cognitive estrangement, and another was accused of heresy for having attained it. (The leader of the faith was trying to tie a tin can of ridicule to the tail of a European academic who coined the term in writings about SF.)

I gave my co-worker the True Faith with a straight face as my religion. Possessing no sense of humor about religion, and being none too bright, he accepted my claims, decided I was an utter loon, and stopped talking to me. Win-Win!

I deeply amused the guy who founded the True Faith when I told him I'd found a real world use for it.

Not at all. Members of the True Faith were ecumenical. We viewed folks who were devotees of other fannish religions like Herbangelism and Roscoe as brothers in righteousness.

The FSM came along rather later, and I confess it's the first time I've heard of it being Lord G-d of the Ceiling Cat faith. Ceiling Cat is a deity, as is its infernal counterpart Basement Cat. (The founder of the true faith had a black cat named Pookie that might have been the model for Basement Cat. When he had new folks coming to visit, he'd say "Hey, Pookie! Fresh meat!" Pookie was not friendly.)

Proper devout felines call upon Ceiling Cat to smite the heathen goggies.

I just spend half an hour on the phone with my insurance company. Last month I bought travel insurance for my upcoming trip. The next day I got an email confirming the insurance and I should be able to see it on the website.

Today I logged on to download the policy to my tablet, but I can't find the insurance. So I called if everything was okay. The insurance company was baffled that I couldn't see it (they can), they made some changes and hopefully I should be able to see it "some time this weekend", and they also send a paper copy which should arrive tomorrow.

My iPod Nano also might have died. Or the battery is extremely drained. After half an hour on the charger it refused to give a sign of life. I've now put it on one of my mother's chargers, I know for sure that that cord is working. Hopefully it'll come to life again, since they don't sell the Nano anymore.

Had a coffee filter flop-over event this morning. There's no bouncing back from that. Just have to scrap to whole day and try again tomorrow.
