I guess what I'm trying to say....Are Kindle users so much less intelligent than other e-book users? I surely don't hear the same complaints about the Sony or ebookwise.

Or is Amazon pandering to the 'lazy' amongst us?
I think the latter is the case. My wife likes to read but I think even the Kindle is too much for her technophobia. Note; I didn't say she was unintelligent. She is quite intelligent, she married me didn't she. But even though she can glance at a child in the day care where she works and tell you they aren't well, if a gadget has more than two buttons on it, she throws up her hands in dismay and frustration.

I understand your wife completely. The most frustrating thing in the world for me, is to have something go wrong with my desktop or laptop. I can fix it...........IF i know what is wrong, or even where to go to find out whats wrong. My husband (who only plays games on his) can't understand why I don't know whats wrong.

I think its not knowing how to phrase the problem properly.

The only thing is, it doesn't take into account the average non-MR Kindle user who doesn't know much about DRM and doesn't know about possible DRM shifting.

If you read the wiki page itself, there is information on conversion. I have noted in a previous post that I would not be getting into removing DRM because of fourm policy. There is a link on the myth wiki leading to the MR wiki on conversions.

If a Kindle owner (or prospective Kindle owner) is researching for more information on the Kindle, OI hope they will find their way to MobibleRead and learn. I cannot contact every owner or prospective owner and "show them the way".

The same can be said of new Sony owners who don't realize there is more beyond the Sony store.

Even the least technologically talented among us can find MR. I was one. But I bookmarked MR and various wiki entries, and after asking really dumb questions and recieving tons of help, I have mastered kindlefix, mobi2mobi, book designer 5.0, calibre, and mobidedrem 5. Really, if a middle-aged woman can do it (yes, that is sexist, but I am a woman so I can get away with it), anyone can.

This is so true. When I first received my Sony Reader as a holiday gift, I thought I was locked into the Sony store -- until I found MobileRead and learned otherwise. Unfortunately, neither Sony nor Amazon have any incentive to suggest otherwise, although the incorporation of ePub into the Sony implies that other choices are available. This is especially true in the case of the person who first goes to a site like HarperCollins to look for a favorite author and discovers that they can buy an ePub version directly from HC.

How much better it would be for all of us if there were but a single format that all reading devices could read and that all books were sold in. Then we could buy a device based on looks, features, and ergonomics and not on which bookstore we want to support (or not support).
