But, it how he typed it. He typed it saying he's reading a specific eBook format. When he put in he's not reading eReader format, he them botched up the sentence.

In the Southeast USA, coke is any (carbonated) soft drink. Over several decades in California, I've never heard it used that way, but it is a big state and there is a good bit of it I've never been to.

One of the huge problems with these evolved usages is the expectations that newcomers know and use them. Even worse is the demand that other regions adopt them. Worst is refusal to even consider that misunderstanding is an issue, e.g. German tourist couple in Florida murdered because they did not understand that they were being mugged.

Yep. I used to work for Pepsi and it used to drive my boss nuts because I would use coke to mean Pepsi.

Hmmm, you have obviously never bartended or waitressed.
You can give a Pepsi drinker a Coca-Cola if there is no other choice, but do not try to give a DP drinker a coke. Most DPer's do specify.

Cola is generic for any cola including Coke & Pepsi. Coke is not generic for Pepsi. Coke is the shorthand for Coca-Cola. Pepsi has no shorthand because Pepsi is a small enough word.
