I'll stick with Google's version because that is the correct one.

Can I offer my modest knowledge of current French, as a native speaker?
"Liseuse", or "liseuse électronique", is commonly used in French (at least in France - we don't have a monopole on the language or its evolution) to mean an electronic device one can use to read ebooks. I suppose the word existed before ereaders, but I cannot remember hearing it used in any other sense. |

Checking the Cambridge and Meriam Webster english dictionaries, "liseuse" doesn't have an entry. I believe people have tried to incorporate it, but it hasn't been adopted?

1. Better battery life.
2. Better screen for bright sunlight use. I borrowed a Paperwhite to try out recently. Lovely screen for reading in the sun. Which I rarely do. I found no advantage in normal room light. I'm very happy reading indoors with my phone mostly, or a tablet. |

![]() Although if you can have a word with the English speaking world to stop using "sick" & "ridiculous" to mean "very good" I'd appreciate it ![]() Last edited by MikeB1972; 09-29-2017 at 05:03 AM. Reason: typo, how embrasering ;) |

Here's some fun. Since some users assume that Google is more correct than Bing, here is what Google pulls in an image search for liseuse |

![]() But the only people I've ever seen use liseuse seem a bit, suspiciously, well, French (or at least French speaking). That's right, I started a sentence with a conjunction in a cunning attempt to divert away from the francophobia, pretty sure I got away with it ![]() Well, either thank you or damn you depending on which side of the generational divide you fall ![]() |
