In all honesty I was planning on waiting on the Kindle buy until I at least had one of the books done... My wife, who's normally the voice of reason in the house, actually encouraged me to buy now so that I'd be ready with more to read once the Kindle arrived...

I've got a K1, but bought myself a K2 as a "you're starting a new job" present (I have a new job starting on the 23rd).

Right now, I don't know which I'm more excited over, the job or the Kindle. Pending delivery 2/25.

I am anxiously awaiting my Kindle 2 delivery, scheduled for a Feb 26th delivery.

Yes, I have downloaded some of the free mobi books from this site.

Yes, I have also held off on buying any books until my K2 arrives. In addition, I am trying to finish my current book, 1491 by Thomas Mann so that I am "unencumbered".

I also want to download the first book that I put on my K2 via whispernet. Just to see how that all works.

My real issue is that I received two other books as a late Christmas gift that I was going to start, but now I am considering getting the Kindle version of each. Seems to be a bit of a waste. Those books are American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House and Just After Sunset.

I hope to be holding (and reading on) my Kindle soon -- it's shipping on March 2. I'm trying to wait on downloading books until it ships, but it's getting more and more difficult....

Where are you-two finding the info about delivery dates? I ordered mine on Feb.11.
I don't seem to have a delivery date yet. Am I missing an item I should be seeing?
Thanks, Toria

Toria,

Go to the Amazon front page. Click on the link YOUR ACCOUNT in the upper right hand corner. Sign in. Once signed in, click the VIEW RECENT AND OPEN ORDERS radio button. It should list ITEMS NOT YET SHIPPED and right under that have a delivery estimate.

Hope this helps. Sorry if it is oversimplified, I am unsure of your familiarity with the web.

Example:

Order Date: February 9, 2009
Order #: XXX-XXXXXX-XXXXXX
Recipient: John Doe

Items not yet shipped:
Delivery estimate: February 26, 2009

* 1 of: Kindle 2: Amazon's New Wireless Reading Device (Latest Generation)
Sold by: Amazon.com, LLC
* 1 of: Amazon Kindle 2 Leather Cover
Sold by: Amazon.com, LLC

There may also be an anticipated delivery date on your confirmation. We have Amazon Prime so we got the free two day shipping on my Kindle.

My confirmation states a Feb 26 delivery estimate...

I hope amazon starts shipping the k2 out this Friday. They do that sometimes with pre-orders so people have them on release day. I have a feeling people are going to see their order status change on Friday to shipping soon status. even people who used free shipping should see the status change and expect delivery early.
of course amazon could do what they want, but from my past experiences with them, and I order a lot from them, this is what they usually do.

I've been waiting for the kindle to arrive since it got announced. I was actually thinking about picking up the kindle 1 when I heard they were probably going to be announcing the second generation. The only reason I didn't get the first kindle was because it was always on backorder when I went to the site!

And, yes, I'm waiting on buying books until I receive mine!

Do you think I could buy kindle books now and they'll be on the kindle when I get it? Wishful thinking, I know, but I'm impatient.

My guess is that they would be in your Amazon account until you received your Kindle and possibly registered it. Once registered the titles would download. Current Kindle owners please correct me if I'm wrong...

Since the Kindle is shipped sealed in a box and powered off I'm betting that your purchases won't be preloaded on your Kindle prior to it's delivery...

As soon as you turn it on it will d/l those books (assuming you are withing the Sprint network footprint). so basically close enough.

Yup -- and you'll have the fun of 'watching' it do that! I bought 2-3 books before my K1 arrived, last year, just to make sure I was ready to download something immediately. It was such fun!

I received my Mighty Bright reading light today. I ordered it with the K2 and Amazon cover.

So I have a week in which to flick on and off the light.... waiting....
