You can actually get it with kindle 1. They offer this color for the executive jacket in leather for both kindles.
Ah -- but I don't like the loop mounting they used for the K1. The first photos I saw of the K2 cover from M-edge was using the hinge mount. The photos now show loops. I read on one of the Amazon forums that they don't have pre-orders for the other mounting system just yet. But, if someone were to give me a K2, the loop mounts would be much better with the shape of the K2 instead of the K1.

Heh heh...I actually will have wound up paying more than $360...

It was $360 for the Kindle 2, but there was shipping and some other charge, I think for when I returned it...maybe $30-$50 total, I think. So I'll have paid almost $400 for it after all...plus there'll be the cost of any cover I get...

:-P

But I do like to read...so I'm lookin' forward to it.

Um, are you saying there was an additional charge for returning your Kindle BESIDES the shipping?
Could you explain?

Hm, so yes, I was charged something...and I think I tried to block it from my mind as far as what I was charged for...I just sent them an email to see if they could look that up for me.

In any case, on my $309 (free shipping) purchase, I was refunded $243.21. So it was actually about $67 that I was charged...

Lessee...so my actual kindle 2 cost (without the cover): $359+$67= $426 + shipping cost to send it back.

Ah well...that's the way it goes...Unless Customer service straightens it out for me...

:-P

I can send more details when I get them.

I would guess a restocking fee. Since the box had been opened and it could only be sold as a used item. Though, seems to me there's a big market for used Kindles right now among those who weren't all that impressed with the K2's "improvements".

No, Elsi, Amazon is quite clear about returning the Kindle within 30 days with no restocking fee, just the return charge. This is part of their 'unconditional guarantee"

How else would you know if you liked it without opening the box and using it?

Kindle Return Policy

From the Amazon return pages....There shouldn't have been any 'additional' charges.

Quote:
Returning Kindle

You can return your Kindle for a full refund within 30 days of the day you received it as long as it is in new condition and returned with all the original packaging, manuals, and accessories. Your Kindle is not eligible for return and refund after the 30-day return period has expired.

To return your Kindle within 30 days of receipt:

1. Prepare Kindle for shipping: Please place your Kindle in the original packaging and be sure to include all manuals and accessories. If you added a memory expansion card, please make sure you remove it as well.

2. Print a mailing label: Visit the online Returns Center on Amazon.com or contact Kindle Support for assistance with your return. Your Kindle must be returned to Amazon.com using a trackable shipping method.

3. Give return package to the shipper: Please wrap the package securely, attach the return label you printed to the package, and take your return package to a drop-off location for the shipper indicated on the label.

Wow, did you pay for shipping when you sent it back? Or did you get some type of pre-paid return label?

You should have been refunded the full price if you sent it back within 30 days. I would follow up on that.

If you click on the "go here to download the Kindle blah blah blah" at the bottom of my post, you can hit the 'contact us' button at right hand side of the page. There is an option for you to enter your phone number (click the"phone me" tab) and they'll call you back within 15 minutes.

Its best if you are logged on to your Amazon account so they will be able to access it.

I would really want to know what that extra charge was for.

I'm pretty sure I did pay for shipping. I think the reason was that the return was me changing my mind vs. an Amazon error.

And I actually returned it after 30 days, but I'd purchased it within the holiday period when they were offering a "return window" on purchased stuff through like the end of January. When I looked at my order at the time, it clearly had said that my return window was open until then.

Anyway, so I heard back from them, and they didn't actually provide any details as to what that additional charge was for; they said that "they will make an exception", and refund me the balance.

So, while I'm still curious as to what the problem was, I guess I'll just leave well enough alone and be happy about the refunded balance...

...I can think of it as my Kindle 2 having just got cheaper...maybe that'll make it easier to part with the money for a good case...I heard from M-Edge that they expect to have hinge cases available for ordering at the end of February...I don't want a case with those corner tabs; assuming the hinge thing works as it should, we only seem to have two options at what I consider reasonable prices, the Amazon one and these M-Edge ones...I think...

Your changing your mind would account for you having to pay return shipping. If it had been defective, they would have given you a shipping label. (ask me how I know! )

However, the fact that they did make a 'one time exception" and refund the balance, tells me they realize it was their mistake.

And it also reinforces my opinion that Amazon customer service RULES!

I sold 2 my 2 Kindle 1's and ordered 2 Kindle 2's.

I was anticipating the announcement and sold the Kindle 1's late last year. I got good money for them, so the upgrade will only cost me about $50 each. Eagerly awaiting them !
