Audiobook Library
I hope I've chosen the correct subforum for a suggestion. I would like to use Calibre to create a separate audiobook library. But the metadata from my mp3 or compressed files doesn't transfer to Calibre, and if I download the metadata for the corresponding ebook, I have to redo most of it to reflect the different cover, publisher, and pub date, and to add the narrator. This would be quite time consuming.
So I am wondering if Calibre could be adapted somehow to download metadata and covers from Audible, which would make it a fantastic tool for the audiophiles among us. Is this possible? |

You can try the Read MP3 audio book metadata plugin.

I had the same reaction to that plugin, Catlady. Just too complicated to get it working.

Well, you can't have everything as calibre is not an audio library management system with all tools for this special use.
I do this job a little bit different. My tool for all kind of audio content is MediaMonkey (you maybe have your own favorite tool). I combine it with calibre using .m3u as book format file. This keeps calibre lean in respect of huge and duplicate file structures and comply my needs. |

The Audiobook Metadata plugin has noting to configure. Enable and drag and drop. The complicated parts is working around Calibre limitation of 1 file per format. If i understand correctly, he suggests creating one "book" per file (I have audiobooks with 200+ files, big No No).
I prefer to create an .m3u and only for audiobooks without an ebook (to sync reviews and rating). Foobar2000, MediaMonkey, etc are still better suited for audio. Edit: I understand you want Audible data source, not read the aax metadata. It's already on Goodreads (Amazon-Audible owned) so I don't see it happening. Last edited by uli; 10-01-2017 at 09:50 AM. |

.m3u is a playlist file
your media player should have playlist tools (save playlist) playlists are just text files and can be edited with notepad(++) My playlist tools always save with absolute paths to the MP3 files, so I edit them to change them to relative (to the play list), which allow the block of files with a playlist to be moved. |

@Catlady: metadata download in calibre is plugin based. You just need to convince someone to write a plugin that downloads metadata from audible.

I think there is alreadya goodreads metadata downlaod plugin, since IIRC goodreads lists audio books, it should be relatively simple to modify that plugin to return results specific to audiobook editions.
