It's still around. Amazon doesn't consider it to be an Echo device; it's an Alexa device. You can find it here - Echo & Alexa Devices

Google pulls YouTube off the Amazon Echo Show

Amazon and Google are in a not-so-fun fight. Google has apparently decided to stop allowing the Amazon Echo Show to access YouTube. If you ask the smart speaker to show you a YouTube video, it fails and Alexa just say this: “Currently, Google is not supporting Youtube on Echo Show.”

That seems like a pretty strong thing for a computer to say, so I asked Amazon about it, and the company issued this (excuse the pun) fire statement:

Amazon’s strident statement makes clear that it doesn’t believe this is a technical mistake, but a conscious choice by Google. Google, however, very much begs to differ on the reason it blocked YouTube on the Echo Show:

The pricing makes me glad I resisted the QVC $75 original Echo. I'm going to wait for Black Friday, however, in hopes of a sale.

Though the Spot is the one that immediately appealed to me (it's so damn cute!), if I buy one of the devices, I will probably go for the plain old Echo. The Spot screen is so tiny, I wonder if it will be of any real use.

I'm confused by the other new additions, particularly the Plus--but then I don't have any smart home stuff to make it useful.

Amazon is just as guilty as Google. They may even have fired the first shot by pulling Chromecasts out of their store. Both of these companies need to get over themselves and have a better product to compete with instead of stifling competition in petty ways.

Amazon pulled Chromecast because of poor Prime Video support.

IIRC any content provider could have made their content Chromcast-enabled.

IOW, I blame Amazon for poor Chromecast support.

I am, on balance, ok with having bought the QVC deal. The audio books and music sealed it.

Really the ONLY thing that's compelling about the new devices--at a glance, at least, I haven't really studied them) is that the Echo 2 would fit on the kitchen shelf where we'd really prefer it to live. The Echo had to get situated in a less ideal spot.

Maybe by BF, we'll decide to get another device. We do have more rooms. :-)

I forgot about the audiobooks, but I'm not convinced Audible would have given me the promo when I had a full 12 credits at the time. I wouldn't have used the music.

For someone like me who has only a Dot, the new lineup seems interesting. I could see getting an Echo 2 for the kitchen; as you note, the size makes it more versatile.
