The James Pibble Mysteries Volume Two contains Sleep and His Brother, The Lizard in the Cup, and One Foot in the Grave, which are the last three of six titles in the (wait for it) James Pibble series by Peter Dickinson. It has dropped to $3.03 at Kindle US and $3.99 at Kobo US (coupon/VIPable to $3.59).

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/James-Pibble-...dp/B0732M8KGT/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the...ies-volume-two

Spoiler:
Quote:
Detective Pibble returns in three more mysteries in the CWA Gold Dagger–winning series by a “master of the bizarre” (Louis Untermeyer).

Fired by Scotland Yard, James Pibble continues to solve the weirdest and most difficult cases, testing his wit while traveling to new and strange locales.

Sleep and His Brother: When Pibble arrives at McNair House after being discharged by Scotland Yard, he discovers children there with a rare disease called Cathypny, which renders them sleepy, fat, and gifted with telepathic powers. Detective Pibble suspects these children are being used as bait in an exploitative con game—and one may even be the target of an escaped killer obsessed with the supernatural.

The Lizard in the Cup: Pibble has come to the island of Hyos to protect Greek tycoon Thanassi Thanatos from the mob after he muscles in on their territory. Rumor has it the crooks are eyeing Hyos for its booming drug-smuggling industry. The mystery deepens when Detective Pibble uncovers a monastery led by Fathers Polydore and Chrysostom, who may be the richest men on the island. But a myth about a lizard called the samimithi could hold the key . . .

One Foot in the Grave: At Flycatchers, a well-to-do nursing home, Detective Pibble is mired in a listless existence—until he discovers a dead body on top of the water tower, one of several suspicious deaths. The subsequent arrival of a woman in black sets off a sinister chain of events, and before he knows it, Pibble is on the case.

Another big batch of Open Road/Ipso/Mysterious Press markdowns, a few new to me, but I'm in a big work crunch and don't have time to do links/blurbs/series info. So here is a list of titles/authors. Most are drops to $1.99, a few to $0.99. I've spot checked a few, and those were all Kindle US only and not Kobo US. Also, check carefully for multiple editions of some of these...
  • Buried for Pleasure and Swan Song, by Edmund Crispin
  • Death of an Angel, by Richard/Frances Lockridge
  • Badlands, by Peter Bowen
  • The Luck Runs Out and A Pint of Murder, by Charlotte MacLeod
  • The Rose in Darkness, by Christianna Brand
  • The Uncomplaining Corpses, $0.99, by Brett Halliday
  • The Witch of the Low Tide, $0.99, by John Dickson Carr
  • Resurrection Row and Rutland Place, by Anne Perry
  • Ladies' Bane, by Patricia Wentworth
  • The China Governess, by Margery Allingham
  • Murder, Stage Left, by Robert Goldsborough
  • Black Sheep, White Lamb, by Dorothy Salisbury Davis
  • Loot, by Aaron Elkins

Elvis Cole and Joe Pike are joined by Suspect heroes LAPD K-9 Officer Scott James and his German shepherd, Maggie, in this heart-stopping thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Robert Crais.

Elvis Cole and Joe Pike keep their promises. Even if it could get them killed...

Elvis Cole is hired to find a woman who’s disappeared, a seemingly ordinary case, until he learns the missing woman is an explosives expert and worked for a Defense Department contractor. Meanwhile, LAPD K-9 Officer Scott James and his patrol dog, Maggie, track a fugitive to a house filled with explosives—and a dead body. As the two cases intertwine, they all find themselves up against shadowy arms dealers and corrupt officials, and the very woman they promised to save may be the cause of their own deaths.

The Christie Caper is the 7th in the Death on Demand series by Carolyn G. Hart. It has dropped to $0.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Christie-Cape...dp/B0036S4DG0/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the-christie-caper

Spoiler:
Quote:
A group of Christie buffs. . .In honor of Agatha Christie's one hundredth birthday, mystery bookstore owner Annie Laurance Darling plans a week-long celebration of mystery, treasure hunts, title clues, and Christie trivia. Yet even as the champagne is chilling and the happy guests begin arriving on Broward's Rock Island, Annie feels a niggling sense of doom. But the last thing she or her guests expect is that the scheduled fun and mayhem will include a real-life murder. The unexpected arrival of Neil Bledsoe, the most despised book critic in America, was sure to raise a few hackles. An advocate of hard-boiled detection and gory true crime, Bledsoe drops a bombshell on the devoted Christie assemblage: He's penning a scurrilous biography of the grand dame of suspense herself. Before the first title clue is solved, no less than two attempts are made on Bledsoe's life. Now Annie and her unflappable husband, Max Darling, find themselves trying to stop a murder in the making-only the first corpse isn't the one they're expecting. . .and it isn't the last.

The Nantucket Diet Murders is the 3rd in the Eugenia Potter series by Virginia Rich. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Nantucket-Mur...dp/B0030P1WKE/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the...t-diet-murders

Quote:
Warm memories and good food greeted Mrs. Potter's retum to her beloved Nantucket, but so did a chilling surprise. Her old friends had a dangerous new look: dangerously thin and dressed to kill!

Was something sinister going on? A handsome new diet doctor had won over the richest widows on the island with his weight-loss secrets -- and his very personal attention. But when sudden death was seved up along with delightful Down East dishes (try sinfully rich Scrimshaw Inn Rum Pie or tangy Nantucket Cranberry Cup Pudding!), the inimitable Mrs. Potter knew it was time to stir the pot and come up with a devilishly clever culinary killer.

Most members who are interested in Patricia Wentworth's non-Miss Silver series have already got them, so, for those that haven't, a goodly number of them (at least 8, maybe more) are free today on Amazon. They've been listed here too many times to waste "paper" on them, but this may be a chance for someone to complete their collection . . . .

The Beautiful Mystery is the 8th in the Chief Inspector Gamache series by Louise Penny. It has dropped to $2.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Beautiful-Mys...dp/B0071VURHW/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the...iful-mystery-1

Spoiler:
Quote:
The brilliant new novel in the New York Times bestselling series by Louise Penny, one of the most acclaimed crime writers of our time

No outsiders are ever admitted to the monastery of Saint-Gilbert-Entre-les-Loups, hidden deep in the wilderness of Quebec, where two dozen cloistered monks live in peace and prayer. They grow vegetables, they tend chickens, they make chocolate. And they sing. Ironically, for a community that has taken a vow of silence, the monks have become world-famous for their glorious voices, raised in ancient chants whose effect on both singer and listener is so profound it is known as "the beautiful mystery."

But when the renowned choir director is murdered, the lock on the monastery's massive wooden door is drawn back to admit Chief Inspector Armand Gamache and Jean-Guy Beauvoir of the Sûreté du Québec. There they discover disquiet beneath the silence, discord in the apparent harmony. One of the brothers, in this life of prayer and contemplation, has been contemplating murder. As the peace of the monastery crumbles, Gamache is forced to confront some of his own demons, as well as those roaming the remote corridors. Before finding the killer, before restoring peace, the Chief must first consider the divine, the human, and the cracks in between.

The Beautiful Mystery is the winner of the 2012 Agatha Award for best novel, the 2013 Anthony Award for best novel and the 2013 Macavity Award for best novel.
