They are just wet and mushy. It's like eating undercooked overly sweet cake. It is likely that they are not all horrible, but I've not had one that was good.

They really can look cute when displayed for showers etc.

Saw these today at Stew Leonard's, cooked the way you described (although I'm unsure whether the sticks were inserted before or after baking) and then frosted in Halloween colors. They looked yummy. Not at all mushy.
