Yes, they warned about 2 weeks ago that the preorder campaign was coming to an end. Then they announced that they would start shipping August 28, and then, yesterday, that the initial shipping was delayed by an expected two weeks. The problem, as reported, is that they had to do last-minute bug correction in the software, and need some time for quality control on the corrections.

They also say a few words about how this is likely to affect the shipments after the first: the second (end of september) might be delayed by a few days, and the one after that (end of october) should not be affected.

If you order a Sony DPT-RP1 from Amazon.com you pay 700 USD for the tablet with stylus, 60 USD for the cover, and 20 USD for 10 extra nibs. Shipping costs are also covered.

So the real comparison would be 479 USD against 780 USD, before taxes. Not that close, really. Those who preordered the reMarkable when it was priced at USD 379 get a pretty good deal.
I just stumbled upon the ReMarkable site today, and I'm so bummed I missed the presale. I would have loved to have taken advantage of the preorder bundle price... but the regular price is unfortunately too steep for me. Darn. I wish I had found it a couple weeks ago. (Or whenever they stopped accepting presales.)

I wonder if there is any chance that they would open presales back up, if the shipping delay turns out longer than expected? (Not that I want those of you who are waiting for your devices to have to wait longer.)

Well, two weeks delay is coming to end. Now we'll see... Aside, its competitors from Onyx are launching new devices supposedly in september, aren't they?

Finally shipping!

Received an email today: units for the first wave will start shipping on Monday September 18, and be shipped in batches over the following days.

A limited number of units (200) can be picked up by Norwegian customers at the reMarkable offices in Oslo on Friday September 15, if they agree to sign up for participation in a series of follow-up surveys over the next six months.

That's good news; I'm looking forward to reading first comments from real users of this tablet.

Handwriting to text OCR for reMarkable?

Counting the days to receive my pre-ordered re:Markable.

What do you know about an OCR app or process for reMarkable? The genius I saw was a capture device that could be treated like paper and then captured into text and images later online.

I have tried several other tables and apps. My note-taking frustration is writing and needing several clicks to capture an image and several clicks to return to text. I want to write like paper with a mixture of text and images. Later, I will go to the reMarkable cloud and OCR the text and capture the diagrams. Perfect!

Sooo which OCR will work best? All help is appreciated!!

I am very unhappy with remarkable. I pay 379$ thinking they send me the ereader from norway. And now they said they send me from China. This way i have to pay 120$ more for VAt and held in custom. When i bougth my remarkable i think i bought to norway company not China company.
This way i dont have warranty of norway product and besides i have to pay a lot or money more. They only permiti me cancel and this way lost 36€ for change $ to €. Never more I will buy something of remarkable. Finally is the same to buy to China Company.

I don't think this is reasonable: the terms and conditions clearly state that
Quote:
Additional costs for customs duties, value added tax (VAT) and other fees or taxes in the country of destination may apply
.

I don't understand your comment about the warranty either. The T&C clearly state that
Quote:
reMarkable warrants you a product without defects in conformance with reMarkable’s strict quality policy for a period of one year after you received the products, or for the period prescribed by mandatory law in your country, whichever is longer.
As an EEA resident you get further protection:
Quote:
If you are a consumer within the European Economic Area (EEA), you may return any ordered product by notice to reMarkable within 14 days after you became in physical possession of the product. You are not required to state any reason for the return.
You did purchase the product from a company domiciled in the EEA, and you do receive the consumer protection you are entitled to as an EEA resident.

When i bought a product in EEA i dont have to pay taxes and duties.
Or buy product on EEA or buy product in China.
If you buy product in China you don't have warranty of EEA.
When i buy my remarkable 1/12/2016 dont have this terms and conditions. They don't put they send from China.
I have a email with preorder and i dont have nothing about this. If they change his web after. I can not do noting as customer.
The product you send from EU you have a certificates of EU if you send from China you dont have this certificate of product.
If you buy a product in China you dont have neither protection and have to pay tax and duties.
If you buy a product in norway you have protection and dont have to pay tax and duties.
This way i think is clear.

You clearly did not read or understand my post or the terms and conditions of reMarkable, which I linked to in my post. There is nothing more I can do to help you.

Did they mention that you have to be part of the first batch in order to pick up a unit in Oslo and take part in the survey?

October seems so far away...
