I just had a look online and the picture I found did show the microUSB port of the Kobo Aura One to be the reverse of the PW3 and the original H2O.

Once upon a time, it was included in the Amazon firmware.

They really didn't have to pull it, they could have sandbox'd it to keep us from 'mis-using' it.
I suppose just removing it from the build was cheaper and easier.
(The folks staffing Lab126 where not very sophisticated in embedded systems back in those days.)

And I have never understood why they don't export user storage via CIFS (that is the Windows file sharing system for our non-tech readers).
Both Mac and Linux (and bsd and ...) handle a CIFS export and it would be much simpler to maintain than the current, custom, way they have always done it.

I clicked on the link from a tablet. It just shows the Oasis. Nothing about adaptive lighting.
The only people that see that description were using iPhones. We have confirmed this.

It is not an intentional mistake nor does it mean there is a new version of an Oasis.
All it means is there was a computer glitch somewhere.

Not everything is on purpose.

So let's recap.
In this thread alone: covers are out of stock at one Amazon, new Oasis must be coming.
Covers out of stock: must be discontinuing the Oasis.
Glitch in a link: New and different Oasis.
Glitch in link: Amazon is making intentional mistakes.

This thread was started in either July or August.
September is typically the month for sellers to start getting their new stock.
I am more curious as to what firmware people will get this month on all new kindle ereaders.

How did you confirm this? I just tried an Android phone, and I see adaptive lighting and page press for the Oasis.

When considering the age of all the models, it would seem to make more sense that the Voyage is getting an update this year. Not that I want to start another unwieldy thread on that topic...

Hmm... A 6.8" Kindle Voyage. That would be a neat device.

Also, the fact that USB 3.1 is not supported by modern ereader SoCs is no problem either. The connector can easily be used to support USB 2 or 3 speeds.
USB C will eventually replace micro USB. And I don't think that it will be long. We made the switch a couple of years ago with our Nexus smartphones. The transition wasn't such a big deal to do really. Didn't need to buy a bunch of new cables either. Just had a few of these cheap little adapters and still use some of the older cables when convenient.

My Lenovo laptop has the standard USB 3.x ports but also a USB C port. Future proofing.

I don't know about the next Kindle. USB C isn't a must but depends on how future proof they want to make it. Even if the Kindle doesn't make the switch this time they will before long. Other consumer grade devices that most of us will buy (smartphones, computers, tablets) will come with it.
