Hah! Love it! I read cereal boxes at breakfast too when I was young. And my parent's Wall Street Journal. Any dang thing with text on it on the table probably got read, LOL!

I would have killed for an e-reader back then!

I do not think there is some 1 dimensional better scale that can be applied to books, so no universal claim can be made that one is better than the other or regarding the size of the difference.

I did read a hardback paper book a few weeks ago and another a few months before that, and I will say that for some books, an e-book is every bit as good as a physical book. I also say that sometimes an e-book is much better, sometimes much worse, and everything in between.

And those differences are not carved in stone, We are nearing the time when e-books can blow coffee table books to smithereens.

Actually, Readers are MORE delicate than pBooks. A Reader has to be treated carefully because of the glass substrate. The pBook has none and doesn't need to be treat with such care. I can put a lot of weight on a pBook and the pBook will be good to go. Put that same weight on a Reader and chances are, the Reader's screen will be damaged.

When I went to the bookstore, I had to buy multiple books so I never was without something to read.

I would have loved a Reader back then. I would have been able to read while eating breakfast. The problem with the pBook is that of holding it. It doesn't lend itself to being held while trying to eat cerial.

Face it Jon. There are uptights in all areas. You don't do exactly as they do, then you are not a real whatever. I just ignore them.
Now I did have a great laugh over being insulted one time.
The person's thought was Cindy does this so it must be easy. Yes, the person actually told me that she thought that way while asking for my help with the project she had found.
I offered to help and promptly realized she had bought one of the crappiest kits ever.
I couldn't make heads or tails of the pattern.

You can make cases for both

My GF dropped a 1000 page paper book into a fountain a few days ago. Now the book is about twice as thick as it should be, and it's basically ruined. Had she been reading on an H2O or a KA1, then wiping it off would probably have been enough. I also can't count the number of paperbacks with a broken spine I've seen in her book case... none of my ebooks ever breaks during reading.

Explain please. How is a print book better? I re-read The Good Earth this year. I read it on a Kobo. 3 years ago, I read it on a Paperwhite. A few years before that, I read it from a print book.

The story was the same. I was able to enlarge the font, which meant I could read for longer periods, and didn't have to stop when my eyes got tired.

Please tell me what was better about my print book experience?

I just got an ereader again, and it is so nice how I can control the font. A real book is better in two ways.
1) You can easily flip through it and go to any part you want.
2)With a paper book, you are not carrying a bunch of others with you all the time, it is just you and your book, until you finish it.

A paper book may be better for you but that is not the case for everyone.
1.) I tend not to flip back in books.
2.) If you do not have another book with you, what do you do when you finish the book and are stuck somewhere with nothing to do?

You have been saying how much better paper books are, so why get an ereader? You said yourself you like one book at a time in more than one post. You did get one for a great price.

Oh, c'mon, don't deliberately misinterpret someone. The poster is using real books as shorthand for paper books; that's obvious and it doesn't mean ebooks aren't real, nor did s/he say that. The poster also said in so many words that paper books are better in some ways than ebooks, which they are. Not absolutely better.

It's worth it to me not to me able to flip around in a book easily because the advantages of an ebook outweigh that, but it is a loss.

You know what the weird stuff is?

When it comes down to it, I dislike digital stuff. If I could, I'd still have 800 CD's, 1000 books, all my video games in boxes (yeah, I know they're digital, but I mean, as opposed to download only), do analogue photography, write with a fountain pen only, and not buy stuff over the internet.

It isn't possible. I listen to too much music, read too much, play too many games to have it all in physical format, can't fit it in my house (not even the 1000 books, let alone the rest) not to mention that it's cheaper digitally. Analogue photography is a no-go because I can't have a darkroom, writing with only a pen and not using a computer is impossible if I want to get something useful done, and when not buying stuff over the internet, I can't even get half the things I want.

So yeah, while I'd love to (almost) unplug from the digital world for day-to-day stuff and live like it's 1850, it's just completely impossible to do so.

If 2 is important to you and you give it a little thought, you should be able to come up with a way to have just one book on your ereader.

800 vinyl albums is certainly possible (I've got about half that), and not subject to some of the degradation that the digital format may suffer from. I appreciate the flexibility the digital world allows. As long as my stuff lasts as long as I do, I'm good.
