Why "BC Bud", of course. Really, It's our largest (by $$$) crop. (And you're showing your generation. )

These days the legal medicinal growers actually export to other countries, including much of the EU. Though one of those companies just signed an agreement to build a huge new farm and processing plant in Portugal.

As for the single-malts -- I know you don't, any more, but I'll sip some Talisker 10yr tonight while I think of PDF files.

@DMcCunney: Out of my league, I'm afraid. I drink Talisker by default, Bruichladdich Port Charlotte when I've earned it, and Bruichladdich Octomore when it's a very, very, special occasion. And regardless, I'm limited to what BC imports. (also, fwiw, we do often mention our tipples of current consumption in the What's in your Cup? thread.

And here I sit, still wondering, how it is possible that there seem to be two kinds of people in the world:

0: The ones that think you need to be an utter genius to get something useful out of a computer.
1: The ones that think using a computer is easy, and educations such as software engineering or computer science are unnecessary because you can google everything. But, when they need to do something, actually, they can't.

There seems to be a distinct lack of the people in between: the ones who LEARN TO USE a computer (and study at least the basics for what they want to do with it), and then use it to get shit done.

Somewhere (maybe it's part of category 1) are the ones who think they are great with computers -- but only know Word and mayyyybe a browser. Can't find the desktop even if you point to it, can't cope with "import file from desktop", can't even FIND a file they've saved to the hard drive .... somewhere. Heck, can't find a file they saved into the folder they are actually looking at .... because it's below the scroll point.

I find them extremely hard to help!

I think it might help people in this thread to remember that the Dunning-Kruger effect is real and not a joke, despite winning an Ignobel prize.

Yeah. You can go to their website and find out if you are compromised. But radio station said 50% of the adult population is. They're supplying one year free <some protection plan>. [Sign ups are being spread out to avoid clogging the server; mine is open for sign up next Wednesday.]

I foresee a boom and bust cycle in the legal marijuana business. I'm already seeing indicators of late comers to the market not seeing the returns they dreamed about. The market is growing, but not at a rate sufficient to accommodate everyone producing for sale.

I prefer sherried expressions, but Talisker has been an alternate. I like the Talisker Storm expression.

I've had the Bruichladdich, both Port Charlotte and Octomore. I describe the latter as "for those who like a little scotch with their peat".

And when I venture farther afield, one destination is The Botanist gin. This is also a Bruichladdich product. It's distilled in a weird experimental still that was an attempt to combine a pot still and a column still. It never made it as a still for distilling scotch, but Bruichladdich's master distiller discovered that if he slowed down the process, it did fine for making gin. The Botanist is described as "the scotch drinker's gin", which is apt. It's an Islay, the grain distilled is locally grown where the distillery is located, , and so are the botanicals it's infused with. It's a nice change of pace when I don't feel like drinking whisky.

(Cue Procol Harum performing Whisky Train...)

Fortunately, I *do* know when I'm not good at something, even if it has to do with computers. I'm a great software engineer when it comes to designing and writing embedded systems or factory automation, competent when it comes to desktop applications (if not written in the very latest version of C# because I haven't used that for years), and I completely hate most web and mobile development because it's so trend sensitive. What is hot today, can be completely out of use next week. I also detest the fact that there are 5 million (and then some) frameworks for PHP, CSS, Javascript, and even frameworks on top of frameworks.

I am? Gosh, and here I thought I was well-preserved.

Speaking of, I was shocked (and vexed) the other day to see a legal pot shop (I guess we can't call them headshops any more...) by my home, sorta. Shocked because I'd missed it, in the last decade, somehow, that they'd sprung up, and vexed because I'd always sworn that if and when it became legal, I wanted a franchise. Humorously--can't abide the stuff. Hate the smell, and have zero use for it. Troo, really. BUT...money on the hoof, if I'd gotten in when it was legalized. (Only recently, here in AZ.) Now, I concur with Dennis--too many, too much competition and apparently some of the er, older dealers are objecting to the legal shops.

Be careful signing up there--there's an automatic waiver, in which you agree to arbitration, rather than other legal remedies. I'm holding off on that, b/c there's no way to know what the damages might be. Might be a good time to sign up for one of those monitoring agencies, though.

Could be, but I really am much worse with regard to writing software for the internet and mobile phones as compared to embedded systems, not in the least because I just dislike doing it because it's so trend sensitive

My desktop is emitting a strong metallic smell when under load. I have opened it up and cleaned it and it went away but now weeks later it's back. I did the sniff test inside and found nothing unusual.

The PSU is so caked with dust. My instinct tells me that could be it. The PSU fan or something in it. I took a can of air to it but it did very little.

Here's the hard part the computer is very old and finding a 500 watt PSU for it that is compatible is being difficult. The PSU has the fan in the back not bottom like newer PSUs.

It's a Gateway Desktop Quad Core. It's old. I've replaced both fans and PSU before. It currently has an Antec Earthwatts 500. It use to eat hard drives till I took out the GPU card I bought. It's been fine till now. Temps and voltages are fine, it's just that smell.

I need to find a cheap, compatible PSU and I'm having a hard time doing that!
