I only use the USB-C cables that came with my phone. I've never had to buy a seperate USB cable--of either type. They seem to multiply like rabbits whenever I leave two together in a closed drawer!

Seriously, Jon? I've seen more reports of iPhones/iPads with issues due to third party Lightning cables. As usual, purchasing from a reputable source and being willing to pay for quality helps a lot. When I want a chuckle, I hit one of the night markets and look at their cables/adapters. Hmmm.. a DVI to VGA adapter without the DVI-A pins for $3. A USB 3.0 cable without the extra pins visible. Yup, that's going to give real high speed.

https://hackaday.com/2016/02/04/the-...your-computer/ As for the Apple lightning cables, I've not heard of a MiFi lightning cable causing a problem. I've always bought certified lightning cables. |

Hey guys,

I've only had the light staying on during sleep mode the last 4-5 days, and the last time I did the ota update was in July, for the 4.4.9??? update. I've got a Glo, so it was just a matter of hitting the light button. But I decided to do a sync to download the latest ebooks from Kobo, and it installed the latest update. After it finished updating it did the importing content thing for about 10 minutes then came back up. The light is working right in sleep mode now, but I lost the order of the books that were on the Kobo. They've been rearranged to alphabetical, and I can't figure out how to get them to go back to date added. I changed the sort to date added instead of recent, and it's showing the books from a-z instead of the z-a that recent was showing.
I plugged the reader into a computer, and it shows the books do still have the correct dates in Windows. I ejected the device without making any changes, and didn't get the import screen again. Kobo downloads all purchased books to the internal memory, and Calibre puts all side loaded books on to the sd card. Is there any way to get the books sorted by date again instead of by name? |

sort by recent is showing it z-a by name, and date added is showing it a-z by name.

For the lightning cables, check Apple's article Identify counterfeit or uncertified Lightning connector accessories. And yes, I have seen iPhones/iPads damaged by bad lightning cables. Not to mention one cable that fried the cable end. |

How is you Glo HD unstable? I can't think of any problems with 4.5.9587 on my Glo HD that I would have called unstable. |

Firmware 4.5.9587 has a bug for sideloaded kepubs on the SD card. Whenever books are imported, it will reimport all sideloaded kepubs that are on the SD card. This will mean resetting the date added as well as the reading status. That was my first thought for the problem you described but if it didn't happen the next time you ejected the device from Windows, something else caused the reimport of the books. Usually that means a corrupted database and that needs to be fixed before to long. If you power the device off and these books disappear, or are reimported, then that is the problem. You can also check the database using my Kobo Utilities plugin. To fix the timestamp problems, the latest version of my Kobo Utilities plugin can set the date added on the device. This updates the database and sets it to one of the dates in the calibre library. This can be "Date" (basically the date the book was added to calibre), the modified date or the date published. That won't give you exactly the date added to the device, but these might be more useful dates and it gives more options if you need to resend all the books to the device for some reason. |

Not sure if this is specific to this firmware update, but yesterday I noticed (for the first time) a strange behavior on my Aura H2O.
The information at the bottom of the page where the reader usually displays page number, or reading time remaining, was somehow "blinking" (slowly) between three displayed informations: pages remaining, time remaining, pages in chapter (or something like this). Furthermore, on some page turns each blink caused a full screen refresh, and I had to turn the page back and forward for it to stop. I had the side light on, and the book was bought on the Kobo store, so I supposed it's a kepub (haven't connected the reader to Calibre since I downloaded this book). I checked again this morning with the light off, and it's still doing it (though it's much less noticeable, the light, and reading in the dark, was making it much more obvious - and distracting, as any kind of movement will be) |
