Grocery delivery has several major issues. First, many people want to pick their own produce, they like to handle it before they buy. Second, is selection. I generally hit Whole Food once a month or so to get specific things (generally meat and some pre-cooked items (the local Whoie Food use to have very good barbarque turkey burgers)) None of that sort of stuff is available online for delivery. I tried the service one week, had two orders [one next day, the other in two days] both orders arrived outside the delivery window and I had to go to the store anyway to get the various items that were not available online, so I canceled the subscription.

One of the big issues that a lot of people have is that most recipes and food items are packed for two or more people. That's one of the reasons that so many people tend to eat out a lot.
I was just talking about Prime Now, which is included with the regular prime subscription. We don't have the amazon grocery delivery service in our city. There are some deliver service where you have to pay a fee, but they are way too expensive for me. Prime Now if you pick the 2 hour delivery is free. And a tip is optional from the app. But they only have some produce stuff, no meats or anything. Other than some sliced ham or such.

Prime Now has added some Whole Foods item in the app here. About 100.
But they already had some frozen, cooled stuff before. Milk, cheese, bread, frozen veggies, etc. Too high, but if you can't get somewhere quick and need something, its handy.

Gotta be careful with Costco, Sams, etc. Some good deals to be had, but quite a few not deals too (without even factoring in membership costs).

I haven't had a Sam's card since my mother quit needing a tax deduction for her business.
We didn't find enough deals to make it worth our time or money.
Our local grocery store has good sales most of the time.

Costco and Sams aren't really cost effective when you are cooking for 2. We used to have a Sams card, but overall didn't save anything when one calculates the membership cost. Doesn't help me to buy a big jar of something when it goes bad before I can finish it. We have both here, Sams and Costco. Only been to Costco once, seemed the same as Sams to me overall.

I can only freeze so much and I do have a chest type freezer. Barely fit that into the apartment. And a Foodsaver, must have one of those. had one for like 15 years. So when there is a sale on roast, which seems to be rare now, or stew meat, even rarer, I can stock up and freeze.

Our chest freezer is in the bedroom. Like you, we didn't find that many deals at Sams.

Ha, my freezer is in the 2nd bedroom, next to a futon. . The little thing that comes with arse old apartment fridge doesn't do it for me. My fridge is so old it has "wooden" accents on the stick out handles that I keep hitting my head on every single time. 1985 model .

I usually cook more than we eat, just 2 of us so I always have leftovers to freeze. No point in cooking a nice batch for just 2. I cook like 6 portions at once.
I got way off topic now. But I still couldn't afford to shop at Whole Foods.

I think we went off topic because neither one of us can afford Whole Foods even with the price cuts.

It's just my wife and I now and we cook large meals on our two days off and then eat left overs for supper during the week. The week before it was a Spanish style rice casserole and a Tuscan Beef Stew. This week my wife made Pasta Fagioli and I did a lemon chicken dish.

I did that for quite a few years. I would make a meatloaf and have left overs for most of the week. Now, when I try it, I find myself throwing out most of it at the end of the week. I work within easy walking distance to a number of non fast food restaurants, so it's just more convenient to make lunch my main meal and enjoy a variety of foods as well as getting out of the office.

My problem is keeping fresh produce. I do buy dried foods, such as mushrooms, peppers and onions. Certainly not as tasty as fresh, but it can work in a pasta or rice dish, if I don't have anything fresh on hand.

Quit buying dried peppers and onions. Buy fresh, chop them up and freeze them. They won't work in a salad, but they will work in cooked dishes.
As to meatloaf, I usually make 2 smaller ones. Eat one and freeze the other.
My freezer meals were so nice when the temperature was over 100 and all I had to do was pop food in the microwave or crockpot or the little oven.
