Norton relegating calibre download as WS.Reputaion.1

Today, I went to download 3.7 and Norton kept removing it every time I download it. I found then that it is relegating the download as a low risk threat WS.Reputation.1.

I submit a false positive report to them online. Just wanted to confirm on this forum that this was indeed a false positive and I can restore the file from Norton's Quarantine and go ahead with the download. thanks. |

Just a quick note, Norton slows down your computer. It's just a really big slug. |

. Good to have confirmation that the download is all right.Yeah, I know Norton isn't the best but I haven't been able to determine what's better. |

What comes with Windows is better. It's what I use. I can't be bothered to try to fond something else when a lot are going to slow down the computer, cause me nightmares trying to tell it something is not infected, get entrenched so much that they can be difficult to uninstall, and give too many false positives.

Just be sure to download from the official website (if you downloaded it elsewhere, nobody can say if the file is good):

Now a days the yellow box peddles FUD. Unless you are a total sucker for ads, Windows Defender does good. IMHO AVG (another decent A/V) is also heading in Norton's direction |

I used to run AVG Free. But it got to the point where I was noticing a system slowdown. So I dumped AVG Free and ran what came with Windows while I was deciding what I wanted to run. After that, I just stuck with Windows for the solution and it works rather well and is updated quite often.

I did download from Calibre's site -never does anything else.

I did get a response from Norton; they promised to put Calibre on their 'safe' list but I think it's perhaps just the filename ....3.7 since they had asked for a link to the downloadable file. Who knows what will happen when the next version comes out. I think I don't pay much attention to that computer since it's not my main machine. Anyway thanks for all the suggestions about just using what came with Win. Good idea. |

IMHO just about anything is better than Norton. I haven't found an antivirus I'm happy with since Vet was taken over and ruined many years ago. Now just about all of them are bloated nagware. But Norton is in a category of awful all its own.
