Last Mass is the first (and only, so far) title in the Ginevra Casabuoni series by C.G. Griffin. This looks self-pubbed (Reyna's Press???) but I have personally read and liked this title. (Disclaimer: I am a huge fan of historical mysteries...)

Mass has dropped to FREE again at Kindle US. I was hopeful this might indicate another title in the series coming out, but it doesn't appear so, at least as of now.

The Grub-and-Stakers Spin a Yarn is the fourth in the Dittany Henbit & Osbert Monk series by Charlotte MacLeod (writing as Alisa Craig). It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle US, probably only for today. Not dropped at Kobo US, at least as of now. I haven't caught this one on sale before, although eRiq indicates it was briefly on sale a couple of years ago.

link: https://www.amazon.com/Grub-Stakers-...dp/B009S33KES/

Spoiler:
Quote:
A corpse in a yarn store leads to a very crafty mystery

When word gets out that Dittany Monk, the sleuthing gardener of Lobelia Falls, is expecting twins, every knitter in town races to Miss Jane Fuzzywuzzy’s Yarnery to begin work on a complete wardrobe of hats, booties, and tiny sweaters. One customer, however, has even more urgent business: the man with the gunshot wounds in his back.

The victim stumbles out of a bullet-ridden car, dripping blood all over the freshly cleaned sidewalk, and dies with a peculiar phrase on his lips: “The raveled sleeve!” Before Miss Jane can offer advice on how to rescue an unraveling sweater, her unfortunate customer expires. To ensure her twins can be raised in a safe hometown, Dittany will have to get the yarn-store murder sewn up.

A couple more price drops on early Knights Templar titles by Michael Jecks (pub, in the US at least, by HarperCollins), which don't usually drop much in price. These have dropped to $3.99 at Kindle and Kobo US, which is about the most I'll ever pay for backlist. Since I have these in DTB, I'll think about it at this price, but probably hold out for better (if ever).

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Merchants-Par...dp/B000VYX908/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the...ant-s-partner/
Spoiler:
Quote:
The Knights Templar
They had all joined taking three vows: poverty, chastity, and obedience…for they were monks: warrior monks, dedicated to theprotection of pilgrims in the Holy Land -- until stories spread by anavaricious king who wanted their wealth for his own destroyed the order.

There was one knight, however, who escaped the stake, vowing justiceas he watched his innocent brothers die.

A Dastardly Deed
When the mutilated body of midwife and healer Agatha Kyteler is discovered in a hedge one frozen wintry morning, it at first appears the lack of clues will render the crime unsolvable -- until a frightened local youth inexplicably flees his village and a hue and cry is raised. Sir Baldwin Furnshill, once a Knight Templar, however, has doubts about the boy’s guilt, and enlists friend and bailiff of Lydford Castle, Simon Puttock, in the hunt for a murderer. But what they seek lies somewhere on the darker side of the village of Wefford, beneath layers of jealousy, suspicion, and hatred -- and the buried truth could prove fatal to anyone who disturbs it.

Quote:
The knights templar
They were warrior monks, dedicated to the protection of pilgrims in the Holy Land -- until an avaricious king savagely destroyed the order. One knight, however, escaped the stake, vowing justice for his murdered brothers.

A gathering of evil
With scores of merchants streaming into Devon to participate in the Tavistock fair of 1319, a goodly amount of unlawful activity is expected. No one, however, anticipates a murder. The guests of Abbot Robert Champeaux, former Knight Templar Sir Baldwin Furnshill and Simon Puttock, bailiff of Lydford, have been asked by their host to investigate the grisly discovery of a headless corpse by a local butcher. Hunting a killer in the din and bustle of the fair could prove a daunting task, especially with the victim's identity a mystery. But Sir Baldwin and Simon are determined to unravel the complex weave of intrigue, rage, and violence that has brought death to Tavistock -- even if it means courting their own destruction.

Injustice for All is the second title in the J. P. Beaumont series by J. A. Jance. It has dropped to $3.99 at Kindle and Kobo US. This is a bit too pricey for me to replace my perfectly good DTB, but if you don't have the book already you may want to purchase - Jance's titles don't go on sale for much less than this very often (or very often at all).

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Injustice-All...dp/B000FC1TBC/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/injustice-for-all

Spoiler:
Quote:
“In the elite company of Sue Grafton and Patricia Cornwell.”
Flint Journal

Injustice For All—riveting crime fiction from J.A. Jance featuring Seattle Homicide Detective J.P. Beaumont—offers fans of Jance’s Sheriff Joanna Brady books a golden opportunity to enjoy a different side to the perennial New York Times bestselling author. Here a dead body on the beach and a screaming woman ensnare Beau in a case that gets darker and darker the deeper he investigates. Injustice for All, now in a Premium Plus edition, is classic Beau—proving the assertion by the Washington Times that “J.A. Jance does not disappoint.”

Yep, that's why I said free "again" and linked to the previous post!

I originally read this as a KU, and enjoyed it, and then I picked it up the last time it was free too. I really had hoped this second freebie-time would be to generate interest for a second book in the series, especially since the description of this one includes "Ginevra Casabuoni Mysteries Book 1", which sort of implies a "2", but so far nothing has showed up. Sigh!

With the scent fresh, Allie is quickly on the case – but a second murder curtails her investigation. Before taking another step, Allie needs to count her enemies: several suspicious dog owners, a boyfriend with a temper (and a demand for vengeance!), and a mysterious door-to-door salesman with a curious tale to tell…

Bizarre salesman, vicious boyfriend and suspect dog owners – one thing is for sure – Allie’s life may never be safe until one of these characters lands in the pen…

Follow the Sharks is the 3rd in the Brady Coyne series by William G. Tapply. I quite enjoyed this series in DTB days, and am glad to see some of the titles on sale from time to time. Sharks has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle US.

link: https://www.amazon.com/Follow-Sharks...dp/B00DZ4GT5I/

Spoiler:
Quote:
Brady searches Red Sox Nation for a ballplayer’s kidnapped son

For two years, Eddie Donagan was on track to become the greatest Red Sox pitcher of all time. Then one day, without warning, he went from unhittable to ineffective—forcing him to drop out of the Majors before he even hit his prime. Attorney Brady Coyne met Donagan before he turned pro, and stays friends with him even as the faded star drifts into depression, disappearing from his wife and child for days at a time. Finally, the Donagans are thrown into crisis—but it isn’t Eddie’s disappearance that causes it. It’s his son’s.

One morning, ten-year-old E.J. leaves for his paper route and never returns. Soon, the family receives a ransom demand, and Brady agrees to be the go-between. He finds that the son’s problems stem from the father’s, and that Eddie Donagan has a dark side no amount of natural talent could overcome.

Death at Carasheen (Inspector Faro Mystery No.13) by Alanna Knight

Originally published in 2004 as Unholy Trinity by Black and White Publishing

Faro is looking forward to a restful visit at Imogen Crowe's home in Ireland, only to discover, on arrival, the brutal murder of a young couple and a community terrorised by a trio of young thugs, the Cara brothers, lairds of Carasheen. Reluctantly agreeing to assist the local police, there are three more inexplicable deaths - accidental or to avenge the murder? Faro’s ruthless search leads him into a web of life-threatening danger as well as imperilling Imogen and their future together.

Apparently this takes place in an alternate history, since it is 1890 but the police in Dublin are Irish Gardai and Ireland is independent.

ALANNA KNIGHT MBE has published more than sixty novels (including sixteen in the acclaimed Inspector Faro series, and seven featuring his daughter Rose McQuinn), as well as non-fiction and true crime.
Her MBE is for services to literature.

Outfoxed is the first in the Sister Jane series by Rita Mae Brown, better known for her Mrs. Murphy/Mary Minor Haristeen series. It has dropped to $0.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Outfoxed-Nove...dp/B000FCKAV2/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/outfoxed

Spoiler:
Quote:
From the bestselling author of the landmark work Rubyfruit Jungle comes an engaging, original new novel that only Rita Mae Brown could have written. In the pristine world of Virginia foxhunting, hunters, horses, hounds, and foxes form a lively community of conflicting loyalties, where the thrill of the chase and the intricacies of human-animal relationships are experienced firsthand--and murder exposes a proud Southern community's unsavory secrets. . . .

As Master of the prestigious Jefferson Hunt Club, Jane Arnold, known as Sister, is the most revered citizen in the Virginia Blue Ridge Mountain town where a rigid code of social conduct and deep-seated tradition carry more weight than money. Nearing seventy, Sister now must select a joint master to ensure a smooth transition of leadership after her death. It is an honor of the highest order--and one that any serious social climber would covet like the Holy Grail.

Virginian to the bone with a solid foxhunting history, Fontaine Buruss is an obvious candidate, but his penchant for philandering and squandering money has earned him a less than sparkling reputation. And not even Sister knows about his latest tawdry scandal. Then there is Crawford Howard, a Yankee in a small town where Rebel bloodlines are sacred. Still, Crawford has money--lots of it--and as Sister is well aware, maintaining a first-class hunt club is far from cheap.

With the competition flaring up, Southern gentility flies out the window. Fontaine and Crawford will stop at nothing to discredit each other. Soon the entire town is pulled into a rivalry that is spiraling dangerously out of control. Even the animals have strong opinions, and only Sister is able to maintain objectivity. But when opening hunt day ends in murder, she, too, is stunned.

Who was bold and skilled enough to commit murder on the field? It could only be someone who knew both the territory and the complex nature of the hunt inside out. Sister knows of three people who qualify--and only she, with the help of a few clever foxes and hounds, can lay the trap to catch the killer.

A colorful foray into an intriguing world, Outfoxed features a captivating cast of Southerners and their unforgettable animal counterparts. Rita Mae Brown has written a masterful novel that surprises, delights, and enchants.

Acceptable Loss is the 17th in the William Monk series by Anne Perry. It has dropped to $2.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Acceptable-Lo...dp/B004J4X6YK/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/acc...iam-monk-novel

Spoiler:
Quote:
Anne Perry’s seventeenth William Monk novel, now in paperback, is a mesmerizing masterpiece of innocence and evil on London’s docks, a welcome addition to this successful and beloved series.

NATIONAL BESTSELLER

On a London riverbank, when the body of small-time crook Mickey Parfitt washes up with the tide, no one grieves. But William Monk, commander of the River Police, is puzzled by the murder weapon: an elegant scarf whose original owner was obviously a man of substance. Dockside informers lead Monk to a floating palace of corruption on the Thames managed by Parfitt, where a band of half-starved boys is held captive for men willing to pay a high price for midnight pleasures. Though Monk and his fearless wife, Hester, would gladly reward Parfitt’s killer, duty leads them in another direction—to an unresolved crime, to a deadly confrontation with some of the empire’s most respected men, and ultimately to a courtroom showdown with Monk’s old friend, Oliver Rathbone, in a trial of nearly unbearable tension and suspense.

BONUS: This edition contains an excerpt from Anne Perry's A Sunless Sea.
