				Adobe Digital Editions support

Browsing the internet today I read on a forum of a Dutch e-reader reseller that Bookeen made an announcement yesterday. They said that the new firmware will contain Adobe Digital Editions support. Will this mean EPUB for the Cybook? If it isn’t true, don't shoot the messenger. But the guy who posted it was an employee of the shop so I tend to believe him. |

i would not be at all surprised by that, after all bookeen did promise epub support for the near future. it would be really great news if that is getting close. did they say anything about a possible date ?

heehee... well, no worries. we know they are working on it. and since i visited the blog, i discovered that they have a new partnership with a comics publisher. that should make a lot of people happy too ! (while we wait for epub. ) |

That's good news. But that's bad news too. If epub support will come through Adobe, that means it'll have all of Adobe's bugs and limitations. |

Wow, I'll never doubt the power of the Queen again. One visit to the blog and <ping> ePub support in the next firmware. This is wonderful news. It will be interesting to see if it's only DRM free ePub support. |

hm. interesting. what about the whole mobipocket exclusivity sack of knots ? maybe they have negotiated a way around that ? or maybe they're dropping mobipocket ? or maybe they're just mentioning compatibility to chat up adobe a bit by pushing their software... i'll be interested to see what happens with all that.

Perhaps Mobi has wised up, or the manufacturers have applied appropriate pressure? Given that such exclusivity never applied to PCs, PDAs or phones, I never understood why it should hold on dedicated readers. Other than, "because they can." | |

I really can't see them dropping Mobi - that would be commercial "suicide"; instant "alienation" of all their current users.

Only of those users that are reading books using mobi format. As there's been no research on the subject, I don't see why you believe all their current users are using mobi. Edit: About Bookeen - I think they might just not have read the Mobi licence (it's probably in English after all) and they might not know the deal with Adobe is something this licence prohibits. If that's the case, they'll probably find out soon. Last edited by Krystian Galaj; 02-18-2009 at 06:38 AM. |
