Sorry I'm late to this party, but 7zip is a free (open source) zip utility that supports most every PC based compression utility. IMO, it is the best compression utility there is, bar none.

New battery same problem
Wow I scratched my screen replacing the battery but OCD aside I'm still looking at this damn tree. I've plugged kindle into my laptop and the Vendor ID is 1949 and Product ID is 0004. If nobody sees this I'm just going to make funeral preparations.

My house. The hottest it gets in here is 75 degrees 73 the coolest.

And now for some reason it's rebooting itself back and forth from white screen to the tree. If that matters. Wasn't doing that before I changed battery.

It doesn't look like I can access files when it's on USB so I don't really know what else to do.

Put it on a wall charger (again) and let it sit there for a few days at least.

I asked the temperature because I found a problem on 7 different Kindles if the room temperature is 83 degrees or over. (KT, PW1, KT3 models, I do not have a: "Device: None" model to test).
(Fixable by putting Kindle into refrigerator ( <=42 degrees ) before putting it on a wall charger.)
