It's a hard call. I followed both the Max campaign and the Good eReader campagn quite closely for the better part of a year, watching all the inevitable delays in bringing new devices on the market.

After seeing how ineptly the folks at Good eReader have handled their campaign, I decided to bite the bullet and buy a Max even though I really wanted a device with capacitive touch.

I knew at the time that the Max Carta was slated to come out and that the Max2 was to come out in the autumn. But I was worried about delays launching. I had already waited a year. So I bought the Max.

I'm not disappointed with my Max. However, had I waited just several more weeks, I could have had the Carta... At least I now won't have to rush to get the next generation model. I can wait and see how things develop.

@mdp , that should be the point. The same problem as the teamviewer, and also I can run NX on C67ML, which has the dualce imx6, with the 3D render. Such a pitty...

@tracey1 , I didn't expect the Max Carta on the video work faster than the e-Note and the N96ML+. Sure the HDMI port will simplify a lot the things and mabe give a sutile point of quickness, but not much. So, if you can't wait, in the next weeks its supossed to enter the market the N96ML+ (9'7")

@Question Mark, Are you content with the monitor capabilities of your max ?

I just found an article on digitalereader about the new product which contradicts the statement of the guy in the video. ( from May 2017)

Monitor also is not on scheduled for this year AFAIK."



@eReader fan 9,7 inches is too small unfortunately since I plan on using it as a monitor

Haven't used my Max as a monitor yet. Have only just ordered a BT keyboard. Have mainly just been using my Max as an ereader up until recently. Reading PDfs on a large screen is so much more enjoyable than on a small ereader.

I am, however, in the midst of making a hard case for my Max. I want to be able to throw it in my backpack without worrying that something else will press against the screen and break it. Since I don't have a car, I ride just about everywhere and my backpack can get pretty full of assorted odds and ends.

I remember seeing several posts about it quite some time ago, but can't recall in which thread. However, someone has found a way to use their Good eReader 13.3" device as a monitor. So that trick might also work for the Max and the Max Carta. Best of luck.

Found out that the e-reader can be set up as an external monitor (duplicating the screen) with TightVNC on your PC and VNC Viewer for Android on your device. Working pretty good for me. There are most probably other software doing the same of course.

Apart from what you find in this 13 pages long thread?
Please be more specific. All that is expressed here is also valid for any Max. Do not count on NX or Teamviewer, they require 3d acceleration

Naah, try the double page set-up I posted a demo video about, you'll hardly miss your 26'' - of course, since you will keep it at half distance. By the way, I contacted Ivan this morning about implementing "double page, landscape, horizontal scrolling" on his Lirbi Reader. When I will have something I will post in the relevant thread.

I looked for something and could not find a good retail solution. But: if you had the wood dept. of your DIY shop cut for you a 220x310, ~3mm MDF or similar board, you could insert it (after rounding the edges etc.) in the front sleeve of the cover that comes with the device. It may make it heavy - I do not know a non-flexible lighter plastic.

I seem to recall Booxtor posting something about using the Max as a monitor in that rambling 73 page thread... but perhaps that information got linked to in this thread already.

Anyway, here is a video which walks you through all the steps using the Tight/VNC method. The actual tutorial begins at the 6:39 mark. The person is setting it up on an Icarus ereader which i assume is the same as an Onyx because the UI looks the same.

I have done this using 23 gage steel I cut from standing seam roofing material. Rounded corners, ground off sharp edge burr and taped edge with stretchy plastic electrical tape.

A wiki page would be a great idea. It can be difficult to locate information in a 73 page thread even when using the search function.
