I was wrestling with my Aura ONE yesterday until I changed cables. There were no problems with the Aura H2O with the same cable. That's interesting as the Aura H2O has a lot more books on it. I haven't tried the Glo HD with the cable, but it has been having problems with another cable. The Glo HD hardware is closer to the Aura ONE, so it might have the same issues.

What is happening with the Aura ONE is that it connects and Windows mounts the drive OK. Calibre detects it and starts trying to fetch the books. Then calibre displays an error about connecting to the device. The error shows different positions in the code. At about the same time Windows shows a message about problems with the connected device. Testing this is a pain because when it happens, the USB port is put into some sort of error state. The only way I have found to fix this is restart the laptop.

When I do get the device reconnected, about 50% of the time, Windows will want to do a scan for errors. I don't remember errors being found.

All this suggests there is something different about the newer devices. Whether it is hardware or the drivers on the device, I don't know. I have to think about what more to test. I haven't tried deleting the driveinfo.calibre file yet. It will be a few days before I get to do much more.

Yes, I've run a disk check about 157 times, because every time this happens, Windows wants to scan and fix the disk, so I let it, but it inevitably finds no errors.

This is exactly what is happening to me. I did try deleting drivinfo.calibre, but it didn't seem to make any difference; I still got the error. I've tried a couple of different cables, and sometimes it seems to help but other times not, so I'm not sure if the cable is making any difference or if it's just such a random occurrence that it would have worked without changing cables. Thanks for looking into it; I'm traveling for the next few days, so I can't do much testing until I get back home.

Does USB 2 vs USB 3 on the computer/laptop/tablet make any difference?

I doubt it is as simple as the cable. I just plugged the Aura ONE into a different port in the laptop. In that, if failed as above. This port is interesting as it is the one that is enabled to charge devices when the laptop is of. And when I plug the Glo HD or Aura ONE into it, the device takes about three times as long to display the connect prompt. For the other devices, they never show the prompt, but they do charge. The third port has the mouse receiver plugged into it, so I haven't tried it recently.

In event viewer, the only thing I can see that be related are in the Windows System log. I have a mass of EventId 51 at around the time of the above failure. The message is:

Code:
An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk1\DR17 during a paging operation.
And one EventId 153:

Code:
The IO operation at logical block address 0xa58ba for Disk 1 (PDO name: \Device\000000d4) was retried.
There are a lot of these scattered through the log yesterday, so it seems like thee are it. But, I'll grab the other cable later and see if they appear when using it.

Anyone know what they mean? Or suggestions in the event viewer of where to look? Also, I can telnet into the device and have a look. Suggestions of the places to look would be good.

No, it happens with both USB 2 and 3.

Kobo won't connect

3) When it did connect to calibre sucessful invariably it would fail the connection before I could send any books, with an "error communicating with device" message on calibre, but yet my Kobo would spend ages importing content when nothing was sent to the device.

I've now done a factory reset and am at problem number 1, so I can't send any books to it.

Has anyone any ideas whats going on? I did have an SD card installed and a lot of books on the device so i was hoping after a factory reset it would be fine, but its not.

Thanks
I suddenly got this problem this morning. I tried everything including factory reset. It used every usb cable I own and nada. But in the bottom of the bag I found one that actually said kobo on it. Plugged it in and shazam it connected. That usb cable is now going to be reserved for the kobo.

It sounds silly, but i had a similar experience. Try a different USB cable. I bought a Kindle one, since Kobo doesnt sell spare cables. A new cable worked and i was able to connect again. I think it must have to do with wear and tear on the cable and the device.

I had a similar problem, I my case I identified the cause as a lose fitting socket in my laptop. Tried different USB cables and the only ones that worked were a tighter fit in the laptop socket.

The following youtube video I found explains how I fixed my problem, but this problem may not be the same for everyone so be very careful if you follow this video -- serious damage could result.
