No this never had been on official servers because it seems to be an interal production line test fw only (filetype FB02).

The release was not intentional, it was a production processing error.

If a reader really needs to know what version number bundles have been removed:

Once upon a time there where threads here that keep the download links posted as they appeared on the download servers.
If those threads are found and the links checked, you can find the few ones that are now broken.

IIRC: Less than three bundles.
It is a fairly complete listing by model.

Amazon already did steps #0 through #4 for you and forgot to undo them before shipment.

I haven't gotten confirmation of this yet, the guy I have testing it lives on the other side of the world from me, so I expect him to try it in about 6 hours.

It was confirmed two days ago when neither of us where looking. *

Besides, I just finished editing the first post.
If some device does have 5.8.9.0.1 on it and can not be jail broken 'as shipped', you can be sure we will hear about it right here.
Angry customers always register to complain.
(and in this case, it does no harm to try. it will either work or not work.)

Just wanted to say thanks and give some closure in case someone else runs into a similar issue.

I have covers showing up again. I found a book that was on the Kindle but Calibre said it was not on the device. I removed that book, plus the one book that was AZW plus reinstalled Calibre just for fun. This seemed to fix the issue. I have not tried to add those two books back into the Kindle yet.

Thanks for the help and very glad I didn't update my Kindle.

@knc1:. If someone was ready to extract the image of 5.8.9.0.1 for each device, then customers running 5.8.8, 5.8.9 can be jailbroken as it is a production line firmware.
Thats what we did in case of existing factory downgrade....

@Wingsnail is reporting that the pw3-32GB with version 5.8.9.0.1 (3175970011) directo from the store is not able to get results from ';installHtml'.

Even if we get an extract like this, the expectation is that the extracted file will be a 'factory' style image, this means that it will still only work on people who have NOT updated to 5.8.8 and 5.8.9.


To clarify, the "protection" amazon has added appears to get applied when you install 5.8.8 and 5.8.9 from the customer images available on their website.

The devices shipping with 5.8.9.0.1 have the software installed on the factory. which means it does not install a customer style firmware, and it does not get the protections installed.

There is also a language barrier, you may have to talk him through the operation of using Branch Delay's archive.

That archive is actually a "tar bomb" and his PC must not be converting it into a safe archive.
Nor should it be un-archived or un-archive and re-archived before use, either by the PC automation or the curious user.
