Kobo Discounts: Coupon Codes + Discussion

GRT50BOOKS code just worked for me (Canada) so it may still be of use to some. Take note if you have any pdfs in your library that as of Nov. 1 they will be no longer available for download. Kobo says it will try to replace them with epub versions but not all may be replaceable and that they'll email customers to let them know which books they can't get epubs for. So if you do have pdfs there, better download 'em while you still can.

Usually Kobo coupon can only apply for "selected books", however, with this method, you will be able to use coupon without any limit.

I tried the AUGWK1 code and it did apply the discount when I was in Taiwan. I didn't test actually buying the book because the price of the book I was interested in was more than twice as much in Taiwan as in the UK, so even with a 50% discount it was more expensive.

Is there any way to check for ourselves if we have pdfs? I don't really trust that Kobo will manage to inform everyone affected. I think I have everything backed up anyway, but I'd like to double-check for pdfs.

I gave up on these 50% off or more deals with a Taiwanese address. I've tried many times and although it works for some, it never works for me. Then it messes up my account. I'll just buy from Amazon or Barnes & Noble, using the coupons and gift cards I get from those vendors, and convert the books to transfer to my Kobo.

I have used similar Taiwan codes in the past with no problems. Have not tried this one yet.

The last 50% off coupon code they sent me didn't work. I have another one, haven't tested it yet but I wouldn't be surprised if it will work.

I did get the Taiwan traveling thing to go thru last time they had a 50% off. Some books I wanted weren't availale in Taiwan though.

Looks like you have to go to the Purchase History page, go to action and click download for every book and check on the pop-up screen if it is PDF. Which is worse than the old system, where you can click download and there is a drop down menu to choose between EPUB and PDF.

It's quite amazing how they have managed to update their website to become LESS user friendly over time.

The old library https://www.kobobooks.com/library/library.html (if it takes you to a login page login and try the link again) clearly shows the download options for each book (the trash/archive section also shows the available formats).

Thanks! Discovered I just had one pdf. Thankfully I already had it in calibre because I couldn't download it either from old or new library. I got the acsm file, but it gave me an error when trying to open in ADE. I haven't tried downloading directly to a device or app yet. Looking it up in the store, I see it's sold as an epub now so hopefully they'll update me.

Kobo's long weekend sales for US & Canada ending today, August 7th (it's the annual generic provincial holiday here), actually have some pretty nice stuff from the usual mix of Big 5 and small press publishers, with a few indie authors as well, with titles at $4.99 CAD or less.

A lot of it is probably also on sale in other stores, but there's also some Kobo-only discounts. There's a selection of cookbooks & artbooks from Abrams (who are usually sale-exclusive and have an unfortunate tendency to expire their prices at midnight UTC instead of Eastern Time), and a number of specialty press mystery titles such as from British publisher Orenda (dirt cheap at just 99 cents each for the latest translations of several well-established Nordic Noir authors and some newer British ones as well), and the usual Canadian small presses, and interesting topical histories from Earnshaw (East Asian British colonial period) and the Hoover Institution (mostly former Soviet Union-adjacent Cold War memoirs).
