One of my very favourite series, but one that you really should read in order. Although all the books are standalone, there's a lot of character development, and an overarching storyline as the series progresses.

Hangmans Holiday is a collection of shorts (including Montague Egg as well as Lord Peter) so may be a good entry to see if you like the style and world.

Although only the Lord Peter shorts are the same style as the Lord Peter books. I really didn't much like Montague Egg.

Death in a Serene City is the 9th in the Urbino Macintyre series by Edward Sklepowich. I've read and enjoyed three or four titles in this series. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo (couponable/VIPable) US.

i didn't find the short to have the feel of the peter wimsey novels.

btw, my first wimsey was murder must advertise, and reading that one first got me hooked!
