I can confirm that the light bug where sliding down the left size of the bezel/screen left the light at 1% is now fixed. The light can now be turned off.

The slider jumps in steps, depending on where you start. When you're unlucky and slide too far down, the light turns off, and you'll be unable to turn it back on again if you're reading in total darkness. I normally don't do so, but sometimes, I still read while my girlfriend wants to sleep. I switch off the bedside lights, and as my eyes become used to the darker environment, I turn the light on the KA1 lower and lower. Now I can't use the left-hand slide anymore, because I might turn it off accidentally, and will have to turn on the bedside lamp if I want to get the KA1's lighting on again. I think the light should be at 1% or 2% at a minimum at all times, with a dedicated on/off button in the menu setting (next to the AUTO button, or below it, or something). I like the idea of an on/off button. That way when you turn the light on, it can still be at the same level as when turned off.
On the KA1, can you feel where the screen ends and the bezel starts? |

My Kobo Glo upgraded to FW 4.5.9587 today. When I connect it to my Windows 10 laptop with USB, the device says 'Connected and charging'. It is definitely charging, but I can't see the device or its SD card in windows explorer. My Caliber 3.2.1 also does not see the connected device. What should I do?
Edit: after disconnecting the USB cable, the device displays an 'Importing Content' screen. Edit 2: I tried 3 different cables with same result. Last edited by drjd; 08-01-2017 at 06:36 AM. |

Ditto with the original Aura HD. I found the dedicated button to be much better experience as it works regardless of the powered on state the reader is in (PIN prompt notwithstanding) whereas the swipe on the edge doesn't work on the home screen.

One thing fixed for me with the new update is the ability to connect to public wifi. Previously, I could get to a sign-in screen where there was AT&T free WiFi, but could not actually complete the connection. Now my Kobo Aura One can connect. Useful when on the road!

MicroSD card, of course, that's what this new bug is having problems with, sideloaded kepubs in the microSD card.
I haven't gotten yet to downgrade, there are a lot of better things to do in summer than sit for two hours with my overheated laptop in my lap reading how to properly downgrade, but unless Kobo release a new version soon with this problem fixed, I'll get to it. |

IMHO, I find reading ePub a much more enjoyable experience than reading kepub. The problems I have with kepub are I have to have a wider line height or the last line (or is it the first line of the next screen) gets split. Also, hyphenation sometime sis incorrect. There's the wasted space at the top of the screen (full-screen reading is not an option). And finally, there is the annoyance of the font size being different than ePub so when going from ePub to kepub, I get a different font size. |

Boy, am I ever glad I didn't go down the kepub route! I'm reading issue after issue with it.
Not sure if changing your Kobo driver in Kobo Utilities is necessary, but if one has a managed library in Calibre, couldn't they convert their kepubs to epubs, replacing the kepubs on the device rather simply? I say simply knowing it would be time-consuming, especially if epubs are then polished, and you may lose reading stats, annotations, etc. These issues really only affect side-loaded kepubs, correct? |

I'm another who likes Kepubs and the latest bug has been a real benefit to me.
It pushed me in to upgrading the main memory from 2GB to 8Gb, in doing so the new card is a Class 10 and appears to have a greater transfer speed meaning quicker loading and indexing of new books. I must admit that's a first impression as the upgrade is only 3 hours old. BobC |
