Thanks for the explanation of why it happens when I eject the drive from my P.C.

I've written to Kobo about the problem and got an ambiguous answer that says :

but also says :

Which appears to say they will ditch my complaint if they haven't got updated firmware on my Glo in 10 days - somehow I don't think that will happen.

It is only pre approved answer from their script that seemed to fit your complaint. It will be treated like a survey of Kobo firmware problems that might be fixed if they have enough similar complaints.

Very glad that the lamp/battery problem was solved after the nth time of being greeted by a flat battery when ready for a good reading session,....its possibly the first time that I've waited eagerly for an update. Thanks....though I found that the correction did take some time for quite a serious problem.

It gets even more laughable - their email to me contained a link to their "Support Site" :

This link gets redirected to the main Kobo front page. I wrote back to them to point this out in the hope that they would either give me a correct link or explain how to "access the question".

Their reply was simply a repeat of what they had said before about being sent to their development team and contained the same broken links.

I get the feeling that they are using a robot, and not a particularly well-programmed one. This stuff does not pass the Turing test.

I now await a reply to my latest that points out that they didn't answer my last email. Let's see what it takes to get the attention of a person who understands English.

Is this possible and safe to downgrade from a firmware 4.5.9587 to 4.4.9344? I have many kepubs and it is really annoying, when my library is being continuously updated.

It's not only when you power down, a USB connection (say to Calibre) will also trigger it when you disconnect.

I've removed the microSD card for now and plan to upgrade the main memory card to compensate for the reduced storage.

A bit of judicious management of what books are stored where using Calibre should also reduce the problem for now till Kobo swing into action and get a fix out. If I'm reading davidfor's comments correctly if there are no kepubs (only epubs and PDFs say) on the external card there won't be the re-scan.

Downgrading to 4.4.9344 is not the best of ideas as you will then get the problem back with the light not going off when the device goes to sleep.

When I think about sending all of my ebooks to Kobo once again, it is a very unpleasant idea...

For me, it is not so nasty, if I compare it with continuous messing with my library. If anyone could tell, when Kobo will prepare a new version of a firmware without this error!

Simple solution, if you want eBooks on the memory card, forget kepub and go ePub. (IMHO) ePub does work better than kepub is some cases like typesetting, fonts, dictionary, and sometimes other stuff.
