Fetching annotations [Experimental] fails with azw3?

I use the "Fetch Annotations (experimental" feature to update how far I've read and backup annotations. However while trying to figure out why it stopped working, it seems that annotations are now stored in an .han file rather than the .hbp used with books in the mobi format. If the "Fetch Annotations" feature wont work with azw3 formatted books, is there any way for me to convert/transfer the annotation files I already have and then delete/reload the book in mobi format? Sorry, the Annotations plugin and the "fetch annotations (experimental)" are completely separate. The "fetch annotations (experimental)" is built into calibre as part of the drivers. I don't know who created it or maintains it for the Kindle device.

Moderator Notice @rszasz - sorry 'bout that, I did the merge into the PI thread. Never having used it, I forgot about the built in experimental annotation feature. I've also adjusted the thread title. BR | |

This feature is not maintained (that's why it is labeled experimental).

Posted an enhancement request on the bug tracker. I'm sure it's too much to hope that the extension to the new format would be trivial. Thanks for all the quick, informative responses. |

To anyone willing to take a look at it the .han sidecar of the azw3 looks like it is a simple plaintext storage for JSON and has the last read location in plaintext. I can happily supply a few dummy azw3 files and their associated .han files if it would help. PS: Is posting an encrypted azw3 file ok if I'm not posting the kindle ID that decrypts it? |
