uploading process on my Aura One was successful. BTW all authors' names and surnames are messed up.
First, if I choose to see "my books" and sort them by surname, for some authors I see (properly) surnames, for others only the names (and viceversa if I choose to sort them by name).
Then, all the authors with the same surname (e.g. Brooks, Terry and Brooks, Max) are listed in the same folder (Brooks)...
I alredy tried to delete books from the Aura and to load them again (with Calibre), but nothing changed.

Unfortunately the Authors tab uses a different (cruder) sorting algorithm than is used for sorting by author in the Books tab. The main problem is that in the Authors tab the sort doesn't treat 'and' as a separator, it seems to only allow authors to be separated by commas. That also means that the sort doesn't work properly if you use a comma to seperate the first and last name of an author.

I am hoping they will fix this and make the sorts consistent, but if they don't then I think the only solution will be to change any author names from the following formats:

FN1 LN1 and FN2 LN2 (e.g. Maj Sjöwall and Per Wahlöö)
LN1, FN1 and LN2, FN2 (e.g. Sjöwall, Maj and Wahlöö, Per)

into this single format, which is the only one that works with the Authors tab sort:

FN1 LN1, FN2 LN2 (e.g. Maj Sjöwall, Per Wahlöö)

The authors need to be sorted consistently in Calibre, which doesn't appear to be the case here according to the inconsistencies you report. I find that the quickest way for me is:
1. Using Calibre to download the metadata for the book: it usually sets the Author tab to 'Name Surname' and 'N1S1 & N2S2' in case of multiple authors.
2. In the metadata settings page for the book, click on the arrow next to the Author tab to correctly set the Author Sorting tab next to it. In the case of single authors, it will be automatically set to 'Surname, Name': for multiple authors, you'll need to substitute the ampersand with a comma in the Author tab before clicking on the arrow, after which it will be correctly set to 'N1S1, N2S2'. There might be exceptions to this of course (eg. authors with double surnames) which you will have to sort manually, but they should be very few.

It's a very quick procedure if you remember to do it every time you add a new book to your library. For those books which have already been sent to the device, after you edit the metadata it will need to be updated (it's done automatically every time you connect it to Calibre).

According to what I already did in Calibre there aren't any inconsistencies, since in books metadata setting page author and author's sort are the same, for all the 1765 (!) books I have. This is one of the things I always check before sending a book to the Aura.

Probably I'll have to change the format to "name surname" (or name surname & name surname" in case of multiple authors) without any commas

For me this update doesn't work very good.

Sometimes the light stays on after I go to standby.

Yes, it, or something like it has been discussed. If it is the same as the problem I have seen, it seems to be related to large books with lots of ToC entries. I think what is happening is that the first time you open a kepub, it does a word count for all chapters and stores that in the database. If that takes to long, sickel kicks in and restarts the device. It must be storing the word count as it goes as reopening the book is works.

I think if anything changes, Kobo will change the book list sorting to be the same as the author list. In the store and books downloaded to the device, they appear to have settled on this as the format for multiple authors. And, I have a book with the author appearing as "FN1 LN1 and FN2 LN2", but it is treated as a single name in the store.

For this reason, and prompted by a discussion recently, I have change my metadata plugboard to set the author to:

Code:
program: raw_list('authors', ', ')

Thanks, I think I will do that too. It is a pity, but I suppose it is easier to adapt to this.

Ghost authors in Authors tab

Looking through the Authors tab on my Glo I found these five authors with one book each that I didn't add myself:

Charles Baudelaire, Le Fleurs du Mal
Louis Couperus, Eline Vere
Charles Dickens, Great Expectations
Wilhelm Hauff, Der Mann Im Mond
Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, Don Quijote

I am certain I never sideload these books (some are not even in English so I couldn't read them even if I wanted to), they are not in my Kobo website library, they do not appear in the Books tab, and they can't be found on the device by search. The only way I can access them is by tapping the author name in the Authors tab. I tried removing them but they won't go away.

Has anyone else checked their Authors tab for authors you don't recognise?

Those sound like the original books that come loaded onto your reader from Kobo, and the funny thing is that most of them wouldn't open on the Kobo reader (at least in my case they didn't, and I had over 20 various books between different readers), and as you said, some aren't even in English. If I remember, I deleted them manually or through Calibre. You might have to hunt for them through explorer though, if I remember, they were in a really odd spot, maybe in the .kobo directory?

If you ever did a factory reset, I imagine those books would be restored, maybe an update restored them though (I haven't been updating since the new homescreen and probably won't ever again).

Hi,

My Kobo Touch (Mark 4) updated succesfully via OTA. But, my daughters have the Mini version. Someone has tested this firmware in a Kobo Mini?

Thanks in advance.

4.5.9587 on Glo with external SD Card

I seem to have come across a new problem with 4.5.9587 on a Glo.

I got an OTA update today and noticed a rather odd thing when the Glo re-booted - there was a long period showing "importing content".

I have some books stored on an external microSD card as well as on the internal memory.

Whenever I power-up the Glo or disconnect it from a USB connection to my PC it goes through all the "importing content" rigmarole whether or not I have made any changes while the device is connected. This can be extremely time (and battery) consuming. This occurs if there are any books on the card (a completely empty card does not trigger the import.

I have signed out of my account and back in again to see if that would help but with no success.

The problem only happens with the external card present.

Effectively this means that I cannot use the external SD card to extend the memory, something I have been doing successfully for some years now.

I don't think this problem has been mentioned before, if it has then I must have missed it when looking for a mention. Problems involving external SD cards will be few because later models don't support them.

From what I've read, the problem is if you have kepub on the microSD card and you restart, it scans the card again. It's a known bug.
