What the hell are you talking about? Harry explained precisely why devices with large screens don't have frontlights.

I have seen several folks that don't know the difference between a backslash and a regular slash but it is important to correct them.

You can thank microsoft for the fact that you even need to worry about a backslash. Slashes have always been used on Unix systems to separate folders and hyphens have always been used to indicate options since the early 70s. (they are still used on everything but windows including URL's. But Microsoft decided to use slashes (/) for options in their DOS so when they introduced folders sometime later they had to come up with a different symbol hence the silly backslash (\). Since they controlled the keyboard they stuck it on.

The \ had been used by UNIX shells and C as an escape character before Gates and Allen pirated time on the computers of others to write a BASIC interpreter, much less buy the rights to a CPM clone. |

Yes, rather easy to remember, at least in English. In French they are called "barre oblique" and "barre oblique inversee", and there is no easy way to remember which is the "normal" oblique... (but as with most things vaguely tech-related, people tend to use English words anyway)

I have watched the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQO3-gQ3CmA
and I second the reviewer, no TOC or jump to page number is a show stopper for me. It is very surprising those features are missing. The device is quite fast, mo more spinning ball upon document opening but the lack of natural navigation (TOC, page number) would make it much slower to use IMHO. I'm not surprised that there is no pinch zooming. Look at the thin bezel, for sure you would be touching the screen at the edges when holding in your hand. I'll wait for next gen competitive product ![]() |

Way back in time, at college, a friend did this: rm -rf . logged in as root, and accidentally at the root of the file system. Unix unblinkingly destroyed the whole file system. They've taken away the ability to destroy everything so easily but it was there back in the day. I think he might have been on a PDP-11, or a Data General MV8000, I don't recall which. It was 2am and he was tired. Should we be punished so severely for our mistakes? Will anyone mention the seminal work done at Xerox PARC? Apple and Microsoft both ripped off the work of Alan Kay, the father of personal computing. They ripped off the windowing system but they just didn't know that they should have ripped off Smalltalk because they didn't understand it. Jobs admitted as much in an article in the NY Times a few years ago. Smalltalk was, and is, a far more interesting operating system than Unix. Last edited by LarryNYC; 07-28-2017 at 07:20 AM. |

With the DPT-RP1 being roughly the same size as the Ipad Pro 12.9, I tried this leather sleeve for the Sony. A little snug at first, but after using my hand to stretch it out, especially around the seams, the Sony now fits perfectly!
Not bad for $9.99! https://www.amazon.com/Synthetic-Lea...r+for+iPad+Pro Also added this for the pen sand stuck it to the sleeve. https://www.amazon.com/Apple-Pencil-...-+By+ZUGU+CASE Last edited by Dr. Drib; 07-28-2017 at 03:59 PM. |
