Import taxes are not particularly high in EU countries. There will of course be VAT to pay, but that would be the case whether it was imported or bought in a store located in the EU.

B&H photovideo ships to EU.
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/searc...rch=yes&sts=ps Be careful: you have to add VAT and shipment to price. The site can estimate it for you if you simulate check-out. |

FINALLY received my Digital Paper from B&H... and it is perfect for my needs! Easy to read, stylus is accurate, and it can replicate my chicken scratch, print all caps, what I call writing with ease. (the delay on the Boox N96 made writing impossible with my handwriting style) As someone who typically prints out 100 pages at a time just to proofread my own work, 100 pages is enough to get by between syncs. I don't miss the internet connectivity.
The only thing that would raise my view of the DPT-RP1, would be if this hack allowed me to use it as a monitor. Thank you Sony for creating MY perfect device to meet my high maintenance writing/editing needs. |

The original feature list of this device (I don't own the previous version, I am still relatively new to eink reading) looked great, but not being able to transfer files from a Linux machine is really a deal breaker for me. I am not running Windows on any of my work-related computers, and I wouldn't set up a dual boot just for the purpose of sending files to a DPT RP1; and the same goes for MacOS.
So I'll try to keep an eye on how this thing evolves, because it did look promising; but in the current state of affairs, it's very clearly not for me. (Use case was mostly carrying around my whole PDF library and annotating research papers - I'm an academic) |

1. Does it have backlight function?
2. How do you put PDF on it? Is it simply drag and drop? |

The answers to your questions are:
1. No eInk device can have a backlight for the very simple reason that eInk screens are opaque, hence light cannot shine through them. 2. You transfer books to it via a program that runs on a PC or Mac. Please read the thread for more details of #2. It really has been gone through in great detail! |

![]() The Kindle Paperwhite has a frontlight, as do all illuminated eInk devices. Frontlights can't be used on large screens, because they (obviously!) require a light diffuser to spread the light across the screen, and light diffusers have a limit as to how large they can be. They work well on 6" screens, moderately well on 8" screens, very poorly on 9.7" screens, and nobody's even attempted to use one on a 13.3" screen. Last edited by HarryT; 07-26-2017 at 05:24 AM. |

It ain't rocket science. A backlight is behind the screen. A frontlight is in front of the screen. The clue's in the name

OTOH backlight has been confused with frontlight for so long that everyone knows what the word is referring to. It's not worth nitpicking any more. At best that point merited a brief correction before going on to answer the intended question. Instead Harry pedantically and unhelpfully answered the wrong question. |
