I've read Death of a Bachelorette by Laura Levine. Now I'm reading Five Little Pigs by Agatha Christie.

Well and thoroughly side-tracked! I finished A Mortal Bane, and immediately downloaded the next in the series, A Personal Devil. Again read by Nadia May, and I devoured this as well. It finishes with a useful author's note on some of the history of the time. (Shortly after the Norman Conquest (1066), during the early days of Steven's reign (1135-1154). A time I wasn't very familiar with.)

I've already finished A Personal Devil, and the next in the series is not available from Audible. However, I've found it still available on Downpour (Bone of Contention so I'm grabbing it from there. There's a fourth in the series, but it's read by a different reader, and I think if I read that one it will be in eBook format. A substantial part of my enjoyment of these books is the narration of Ms. McCaddon, who, under whatever pseudonym she uses, has always been one of my top 5 narrators.

Finished Lindsey Davis' The Silver Pigs (the first in her Falco series). Not bad, and the setting is interesting enough that I imagine I will continue.

Now on to a re-read (via audio) of Dan Simmons' Hyperion and Kameron Hurley's The Stars are Legion on my Kobo.

I think I must have read some of it before - the first two stories seemed very familiar. But I didn't remember the last few stories at all.

And on the whole they were pretty good. But the formatting on my copy was dreadful. Bad enough that I'm going to spend some time seeing if I can re-download it from the nook store, since it seems my Fictionwise library got transferred to a USA nook account.

Next up: Prince Ivan by Peter Morwood. I really liked his Clan Wars series, so I decided to get his 'Tales of Old Russia' when they had a special offer recently. Looking good so far.

It sounds fun I've added the first in the series to my uk.ereaderiq.com watch list, so that I can get it if it has a special offer price.

I liked the Falco series a lot when I reads them (in paper) some years ago. I've been reading the follow-on series in ebook.

Just finished a re-read of Rendezvous with Rama by Arthur C. Clarke on my Kindle. The first reading was late last year as an audiobook. I'll have to go on with the series now to find out what that Ramanians are up to. Who are they? What do they hope to accomplish? Do they have a religious agenda? Perhaps they worship the Great Spaghetti Monster. That would make them Raman Noodleites, would it not?

The sequels are just awful. I really, truly, wouldn't waste your time with them. Keep your memory of the original (which is a true classic of SF) unsullied by them.

I did manage to redownload, but the copy I got was identical to the copy I had, and it has the same bad formatting. (Missing spaces between words occasionally. It looks like the ebook might have been from a PDF or a scan/OCR!)

I just hate when that happens. I can live with minor errors. But when it's just a bad OCR from a scan, and they still want to charge for it? Nope.

Finished The Autistic Brain by Temple Grandin. Definitely a reread.

Next, I think I will pick up C. J. Cherryh's Peacemaker, the umpteenth Foreigner novel.

I liked Little Dorrit a lot. I read it after I'd started watching the British series that was on Masterpiece (2008) with Claire Foy, Matthew Macfadyen and Tom Courtenay. At times Dickens goes overboard in repeating things, as some of his characters are silly parodies, so I had to skim over some of those sections.

Finished "Oath of Swords", by David Weber; the first book in the "War God" fantasy series. Baen description:

Quote:
Our Hero: The unlikely Paladin, Bahzell Bahnakson of the Horse Stealer Hradani. He's no knight in shining armor. He's a hradani, a race known for their uncontrollable rages, bloodthirsty tendencies, and inability to maintain civilized conduct. None of the other Five Races of man like the hradani. Besides his ethnic burden, Bahzell has problems of his own to deal with: a violated hostage bond, a vengeful prince, a price on his head. He doesn't want to mess with anybody else's problems, let alone a god's. Let alone the War God's! So how does he end up a thousand leagues from home, neck-deep in political intrigue, assassins, demons, psionicists, evil sorcery, white sorcery, dark gods, good gods, bad poets, greedy landlords, and most of Bortalik Bay Well, it's all the War God's fault. . . .
David Weber's best known for his military SF, of course, but I must say I was very pleasantly surprised by this fantasy novel of his. Truly excellent, and highly recommended. Although it's the first book in a series, it can be read as a completely standalone novel. Really very, very good indeed. It's available from the Baen Free Library.

The paid-for version of the book, which is what I read, also contains a (long) novella called "Sword Brother", set in the same universe, which was also very enjoyable. This isn't included in the version of the book that's in the Free Library.
