What fictional group should be on a space show?
Mixed premise department: Which person or group from existing TV shows, literature, movies, comic books, etc, would you like to see in a new TV series wherein they are out adventuring in space (and assuming they are not already, okay)? Can be serious or humorous, on a planet or travelling by starship, whatever.
On the serious side, I'd love to see the cast of Lost stuck on a starship, out of their control, trying to figure it out and get home (Lost... in Space! Har!) On the humorous side, I'd love to see Home Improvement's cast flying a starship/broadcast studio, and watch Tim Taylor in his attempts to soup up the ship and improve its functions. ("Gee, Tim, I don't think a laser-guided microwave is a good idea..." "Nonsense, Al... watch this!" Bzzt! Schlorp! "Aargh!") |

Bankers.
Send all the bankers to space. Then let's see how far their ability to demand huge bonuses for messing up actually gets them. |

Freedom 55 or 65 or 75 or ...
Orbiters for all retirees.
Space, yes space, on Earth has become a hot commodity. Overpopulation has created a booming business in Off-World Retirement homes. Those who planned carefully, get to choose from a great selection of .5G Golf and Lawn Bowling retirement orbiters. Those that didn't plan carefully, or who let the bankers do it for them, are put into government run institutions where it's every senior jettison for themselves. You looking for some existing TV shows/characters that could be cast into space?: British: Waiting for God, One Foot in the Grave, New Tricks American: Golden Girls, Homer's Dad *edit* New activity for our Canadian retirees, 3D curling in 0G, sky rocket delight! Steve, I'd like to reverse the premise. Stars Wars in Washington DC. The Emperor as the Fed chairman, Darth Vader as the Treasury Secreatary, And Luke Skwalker as the a bright new banker from the sticks of Middle America. Special guest apperance by Obi-Hard-Money as Milton Freidman. With Miss Liberty as Princess Greenback... "...Whee...Whaa...Yield to the Bailout, Luke!...It's the Only Way." "Use the Gold, Luke." "I'm not saying that I believe in Gold or any of that supersitious stuff. Mercenaries only work for money they can spend at the bar...." "We're here to rescue Princess Greenback, Hans. She's got lots of bar money..." |

It's grocery store politics, but it's a start. I think something like Boston Legal could be re-worked as a science fiction series. The approach to legal questions from interesting and entertaining angles would benefit from having even more speculative leeway. As a bonus, many cast members already have SF acting experience. |

I'd add some steps to further that idea. It would be a reality TV type of show.
First, include oilers and other financial despotes. Second, let them vote for a representative. Third, they have to submit plans to save the planet every week. Fourth, every debate is filmed. Fifth, when plans are rejected only the elected representatives are blown out to space as all others watch what their inefficiencies have forced on them. I guarrantee a good survival chance for your grandkids. Okay okay! I'll be magnanimous... the whole show is done in a simulator. Only they can't know, agreed? |

The cast of Star Trek... That would be great! A bunch of old actors who formerly starred as space adventurers in an old TV show are, by odd circumstances, thrust into an actual space adventure!
Oh wait... |

Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders, Stephen Fry, Rowan Atkinson, Penelope Keith, and Pam Ayres, with the captain chosen from David Tennant, Jeremy Clarkson and Katie Price ..... should be a winner ....
