OSX Calibre server app
Hello,
I'm new here, and first of all , I want to thank the creators of Calibre software. I have very few knowledge in programming, but I'd like to have calibre server as a stand alone app, or just the calibre server opening automaticly at boot time. I am on Maveriks on one MacbookPro and on Sierra on another one. Can you please help me with simple instructions to do that ? Thank you very much. Last edited by chrsl31; 07-05-2017 at 08:38 AM. |

Thank you very much.
But that was not my question. I do not want to run Calibre app, I just want the server, not the main app. |

You do realize that calibre 3 and it's server is totally different from calibre 2. You can't run the calibre GUI and standalone server at the same time; it's one or the other.
This is why Kovid suggested running the app, and the server withn it. |

Thank you PeterT.
I do not want to run at the same time calibre GUI and standalone server. I just want to run a standalone server, only a standalone server ... I just want to have Calibre server running in the background, WITHOUT Calibre (2 or 3, I don't care) main application running ... |

@chrsl31 - see Command line interface->calibre-server in the calibre User Manual. There are a number of new options.
Also suggest you read the The calibre Content server section of the manual. BR |

Thank you BetterRed.
"Command line", that's the point. I read the manual many times, but I do not know how to make the link between the command lines (that I type in Terminal, I guess) and the result I want, that is a standalone running app ... How can I transform the command lines in an application ? Thanks |

From the very beginning of the Command Line Interface section of the calibre User Manual
Quote:
Code:
/Applications/calibre.app/Contents/console.app/Contents/MacOS/calibre-server <whatever options you want> |

May I ask what your reluctance to running Calibre and using the server from that? I'm not sure that there is much 'overhead' (RAM & CPU usage) from running Calibre. From what I can see, Calibre, when not actually doing anything, doesn't use much resources at all.
The reason I ask is, although quite robust if you are not comfortable using the Command Line Interface, it may not be worth it. |

I dont use os x, but basically you have to create a launchd plist file to run the calibre-server command at startup. If you dont know how to do that, you will need to google, or simply use the calibre GUI, which is a lot simpler for most people.

![]() I see they're recycling PLIST. OS/360 JCL (circa 1960s) had a PLIST verb. Can't recall what it was about, might have been Partitioned Datasets - which is roughly what a 'bundle' appears to be. See Ecclesiastes 1:9 BR |
