K2 is new. That is pretty much all there is to say. New stuff gets talked about.

I have both the 500 and the K1. I no longer use the 500 and plan to sell it or give it to a friend. I have to say after having both, I really don't get why anyone would want a 500 or 505 over the K1 or K2. The 700 I can understand but only if you have need of it's extra features. I don't. |

http://www.amazon.com/Kindle-Amazons...sin=B00154JDAI ) THEN Alex offering the 'free kindle2 contest", yeah, there have been lots more threads started about the Kindle. However, this should, hopefully, please Lord, die down soon. Business will be back to normal, and hopefully this thread will die too!

Given the international membership, I would expect other readers to get more attention as the Kindle is a U.S. only device. But I have found this board to be the least pro-Kindle. It seemed that one couldn't say anything good about the Kindle without someone jumping in with anti-Amazon or comments about its appearance as if to shame those of us who owned them. Perhaps the K2 has helped quiet some of the later naysayers.

That being said, if I wanted a Kindle lovefest, there are plenty of other boards for that. I come here because I like reading about what else is out there and the technical/industry expertise. Oddly enough, I find all the Kindle posts distracting

To me what would really improve the whole eBook experience and bump sales would be: 1) the ability to read your paid eBooks in ANY reader, Kindle, Sony, etc. Most d/l'd music is going the way of "invisible" DRM, why not eBooks too? Give people the piece of mind their paid book will work in whatever eBook they might have in 5 years. 2) the ability, for at least the original owner, to transfer the book to someone else, just like a real book. I get publisher are threatened by a "used" eBook market since used eBooks are not like used paper books. But with digital management they could allow for 1 transfer. That would then devalue the eBook sold as "used" because the used copy would not come w/ transfer rights. Last edited by spec2; 02-16-2009 at 09:52 AM. |

Just to clarify... True, music is being advertised as "No DRM" now, but it's not DRM-free. It's just gone from an active approach that locks the media to a specific computer, player, etc to a passive one that is open but leaves a "bread crumb trail" to identify the owner if a copy of the music ever hit the torrents or other P2P. That is what I was referring to when I mentioned the "invisible DRM" which I think is a much more palatable approach.

was a no brainer for me, due to a promotion I was able to purchase the 505 for $199, half the cost of a Kindle at the time, and no interest for 12 months.
