Yesterday's Gone Sean Platt & David Wright
Was part of a box set with different authors I was told would be good because I like dystopian novels and short stories.

Next on my list is to re-read The Martian.

Need to save for a new ereader so will have to re-read some of my books.

Before I started F&SF I started Faro's Daughter by Georgette Heyer. Great fun. A most enjoyable regency romance, where the destination is obvious, but the pleasure is in the journey.

Now back to F&SF, which is looking good so far.

But also Deadly Decision by Kathy Reichs.

I seem to be going through a bit of parallel reading at the moment. I don't usually have two books on the go!

After a terrible June in which I managed to finish I only one book, and that one an audiobook, yesterday I finished reading three.
• Longitude: The True Story of a Lone Genius Who Solved the Greatest Scientific Problem of His Time by Dava Sobel (last month's MobileRead Book Club selection)

• Socrates Cafe: A Fresh Taste of Philosophy by Christopher Phillips

• Astrophysics for People in a Hurry by Neil deGrasse Tyson (audiobook read by the author)

After all those non-fiction works, it's now for some fluff. Today I'll be starting the next book in Erle Stanley Gardner's Perry Mason series.

Finished up Ron Rash's Above the Waterfall and slipped in the next volume of Master Keaton.

Started the audio of The Girls of Atomic City and am still reading We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves on the KA1.

Actually, no. I won't be starting The Case of the Careless Kitten (book 21 in the series) now as it's not available as an ebook. So I just bought it used in paper from B&N, and while I'm waiting for it to arrive in the mail, I'll skip ahead to book 22, The Case of the Buried Clock.

Reading a series out of order??!! You do like living on the edge.

What did you think of Longitude, btw? I really enjoyed it but some here don't seem so enamoured.

I'm curious -- why did you not post your opinion and thoughts over in the discussion thread? It's always good to get more people involved in the discussion, even if it's only "I really enjoyed it".

FWIW, I enjoyed it too. And having actually been to Greenwich to see them after the first time I read it, I am even more impressed!

Oh, wow! Having watched the movie, and now read the book, my recommendation is to do BOTH. The movie is powerful, but the book is even more so, and has much more detail. This is a 5-star highly recommended read.

I read it years ago (2011, having checked), and haven't participated in the discussion thread for a while (life events getting in the way). Can't remember it well enough to do a review justice anyway, but I see I gave it 4 stars.

Just went to the Canadian Flag one for Confederation Day weekend. And this one is a placeholder for whatever my next one will be.

I decided to read another self-pubbed freebie I had on my ereader, Queen of the Void by Michael Wallace. This was only o.k mostly because many things didn't make sense to me. In addition, there were a couple of glaring conveniences. The writing was on par for a space opera. But there wasn't anything here that makes me want to continue the series. Rated D+ [2 stars].

Next, The Pericles Commission is the first in a fictional series by Gary Corby, who will take me to Ancient Greece to determine who assassinated Ephialtes. It's one of the most exciting times in their history.

Out of my usual genre zone but I've started reading The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper by Phaedra Patrick. It's about a widower who finds a charm bracelet while going through his dead wife's belongings and he gets caught up tracking down the stories of each of the charms and getting to know a side of his wife he never knew from before they met. It's rather good.
