Edit: that website is really useful too! Since they are pdfs they should work fine on the rp1. Last edited by Avenger; 07-04-2017 at 04:51 PM. |

Finally I'm going to exchange my DPT-RP1 with a new one. Service from B&H is really nice.

I think this is one of the coolest features of the S1 and RP1. |

How does one take a screenshot on this unit?
Also, given its apparent security focus, does it have a lock screen after a timeout? If so, can the user set the lock image? |

You can set a sleep timer to turn it off after a period of inactivity, which will require a password when you turn it on. There's no custom lockscreen, it just shows the "Digital Paper" logo |

I've come to the realization that the RP1 can run my life!
In addition to serving as my calendar, I'm now using it to track my daily classical guitar practice, plan life goals, handle all of my needs for design and note taking for work, as well as to read technical papers and literary works. The RP1 is awesome. |

I will second that. For all it's navigation limitations, it is lightning fast. I have never seen an e-ink reader handle PDFs faster than the RP1, even 1000 page 150MB files.

I'm close to returning the DPT-RP1 within Amazon's 2 week return policy. I greatly admire the hardware, but I don't feel the freedom I would like from an e-Reading tablet like this.
Always having to carry your Windows/Mac laptop with you to get documents on the DPT-RP1 feels very constraining, particularly when you realize you're walking around with >$3000 worth of devices all the time (a mobile phone which I can't use to get documents on the DPT-RP1, a Macbook Pro, and a DPT-RP1). Certain features such as navigation/keyboard may be added in future firmware updates. I doubt this however, given that the predecessor DPT-S1 was sporadically updated (with minor things), Sony deliberately removed these features (the DPT-S1 had them), and Sony hasn't bothered adding these features within 2 weeks after the DPT-RP1's release (which is when people decide to keep the device or return it). What is certainly out of the question is that internet access - and cloud integration - will happen on the DPT-RP1. The DPT-S1 had internet and cloud integration, but the DPT-RP1 is totally locked down with the Digital Paper App and Sony's network security certificates (which Sony spent a year on developing). You can't even drag-and-drop from the file explorer to the device anymore - only through the App on your laptop can you access the device. Given the hardware improvements (particularly the faster Carta screen) the DPT-RP1 would have been a great device if it had the DPT-S1's software. A pity!
