Looking for recommendations for a bluetooth speaker for my Echo Dot. My criteria must be way outside the norm since I've had very little luck with my search.
1) Looking a non-portable, single-speaker, bluetooth-only solution. I don't want anything that runs off of a rechargeable battery. I just want to plug it in and leave it on. 2) Affordable. I have a low-definition ear. I'm not looking for the audiophile's dream specs. So far I've only been able to find portables, or non-portables that are out of my price-range. Is there seriously no market for a budget (< $100), non-portable, bluetooth speaker? |

That's what I do as well. A smallish, portable Bluetooth speaker, plugged in via micro-USB cable to an Amazon USB power adapter, and connected via Bluetooth to my Dot in the kitchen. Works just fine.

I plug my portable in when it needs it. I should probably leave it plugged in.

All the stories about Lithium Ion batteries catching fire have made me nervous about leaving a wireless bluetooth speaker plugged in when I'm not home.
It's probably so rare (it's not like my laptop - with its battery installed - isn't constantly plugged in), but so far, I only plug in the speaker when I'm home. |

For my bedroom Dot, I don't use BT speakers. I use a set of AC-powered computer speakers.

In my bedroom, I have a dot connected to the auxiliary port of an old Bose clock radio. Works great.

![]() I don't want to physically plug the dot into a speaker because I like having the Dot on the side of the room where I'm sitting, and the speaker on the other (with the TV/entertainment center). So why are all the home, powered bluetooth speakers that I'm craving so expensive in the first place? How hard could it be to manufacture a portable-type unit without the rechargeable battery? This is in the ballpark, but it's still a bit too pricey for me (and I'm not in love with the guitar amp look). I never dreamed what I wanted would be such a luxury item. *shrug* |

FWIW, DiapDealer, this little Barricade Mini has remarkably decent sound, and I just leave it plugged in and connected to the Dot on the main floor. Works a treat. And better sound than my full Echo in the office.

I just saw this Sony speaker on sale for $68 at Amazon. It can be plugged in to charge, so I would think it can be left plugged in.

No issue. Like I said, I leave it plugged in full time, and it is just fine. And at that price, you can give it a try. If it doesn't work out, you're not out a whole lot. If it does, and you want to upgrade the sound a bit, bump up to one of their larger ones.
