Many of the older ones (which are very often the primary sources for the inscriptions) are hand-drawn, because they predated the existence of hieroglyphic fonts for printing! If you'd like to see an example, this document is one of the most important sources, and one I use constantly. Not something that OCR would work too well with! I can now see how naive of me it was to think that OCR would be any help, haha. I understand in this case the main problem for you is also the speed, otherwise the DPT-S1 would probably be an option, given it has an SD slot.

From my experience on the S1, there are two things which eat battery a lot: One is WiFi, but a less obvious one appeared to be that if you leave the pen "in proximity" of the screen (where it is electromagnetically "tracked"), the battery also wears down pretty quickly. Is the RP1 constanty "WiFi On" in order to sync with the App on the computer, or how does that work?

Wifi, Bluetooth and NFC is off. Stylus is in the case, not on the screen but near the device.

What's your usage pattern?

Sony advertises the device as 'up to 3 weeks of battery' but that comes with some footnotes on their website: max 1 hour use of the device per day, max 1 minute use of stylus per day (!), wifi off, bluetooth off, device in sleep mode, and so on.

If you translate these footnotes into real-life-usage you'll get 1 - 2 days of battery life (if you read for hours and scribble on almost every page as I do it'll drain relatively quickly - the stylus is battery intensive).

Is the Sony's battery user replaceable? A fixed battery would be a big disadvantage

Just as an update, it never got here today and the tracking hasn't been further updated. I knew this shipping partner stuff is unreliable. It works if it's from a short distance away but not for across the country. Maybe Monday.

Fingers crossed! Mine was bumped from shipping Thursday to Friday, still hasn't shipped. Reminding myself that patience is a virtue. Still a bit surprising since I preordered on the 1st of June and got 1 day shipping. Le sigh

Not naive at all - it was an entirely reasonable suggestion! I've seen videos of the S1 and I just don't think I could live with the slow page turning. I'm very happy with my iPad, although always on the lookout for better solutions.

No, now I'm just testing, no intensive use. I removed the magnetic cable connector. It is magnetic, but in the sleep mode that should not matter. Am I right? The device lost 2 "stripes" of the battery indicator during the night just lying around. No use. I reseted the device too. Currently I'm not happy, let's see. A defective battery may also be the cause?!

Is there anybody in Australia who already got a Dpt rp1? How much for the final price?

I've been at a classical guitar seminar for the last week and mine has been in sleep mode. I looked last night and it is only down one bar. I can't see why that magnetic connector would cause power drain. I should get it soon so I can test.

Just double-checking, but do you have the option to leave Wi-Fi on while in sleep mode turned on? Is the bluetooth radio on?

I charged my device fully on Friday, and only used it a few minutes over the weekend. This morning it is still at 4 bars, so there doesn't seem to be much (if any) background drain.

After 2 days without the magnetic adapter no battery drain.
I used it with my DPT-S1 and had no issues. Will plug it in today and have a look at the battery drain again.

It seems silly but I like the calendar template. I put events in the calendar on my iPhone but it is cool to be able to draw your day by hand on the RP1 instead of having to type everything in.
