Smashwords July Sale

The oddly named Smashwords July Summer/Winter Sale is on now through July 31. Authors may opt in to this sale and provide coupon codes worth 25%, 50%, 75% or 100% off of the cover price for whichever titles they'd like to enter.

If you go to Smashwords' main page you can click on "Browse Books on Sale" in the upper left of the page. You can further refine the search results by Genre, Price, etc. Most of the books are by Indie authors, but there are a few small publishers who distribute through Smashwords and have entered some books.

Since authors can select specific titles to enroll in the sale you will have to do a little digging to come up with books you'd like to read.

To get you started I can suggest the first volume in the Tommy Two Shoes mysteries, The Tommy Two Shoes Mysteries: From Mountains to More -- published by Laurel Highlands Publishing, which seems to be a very small but legitimate publisher. In my review I gave this collection of stories 4 Stars out of 5. The tone is very "Joe Friday just the facts, ma-am" with the added feature of a somewhat unhelpful ghost who provides cryptic clues. The regular price is $2.99, but it's free with the coupon code.

Having finally got Calibre Companion working (after a fashion), I'm now starting to read them after I got all 11 in the January Sale. I'm on #3 now, and have to say she doesn't seem to learn from experience!

Smashwords authors seem to tend to repeat participation in the sales (in general, not every one, every time), so if you missed or didn't really pay attention to the last Smashwords sale, back in March, you might also check out the list of authors/titles from back then in this old thread: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=284228

Also, in the past at least, author/title participation would vary over the time of the sale, so it doesn't hurt to keep a bit of an eye on it if there are some Smashwords authors whose titles you want...

True. Some books are always being taken off the sales floor and sometimes one book in a series is offered free but the others aren't at that sale but then down the road the others are offered free or at reduced price. And there are always new books coming out that are promoted during the sales. I think one of the best parts is if you buy a given book (when it's free) from an author you haven't tried yet and find you don't enjoy their writing style or whatever you really haven't lost anything (save perhaps for a few moments of time when you were reading the story that you didn't enjoy). On the other hand you also get the chance to read something that may lead you to buy additional titles from a new author down the road. A true win-win situation.
